A Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia – What we know

The post-invaded British Isles will pave the way to the latest Total War game heading to PC tomorrow - sending players back to the 800s in A Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia.

Turn-based movement and strategic open battles will return to the popular franchise, with some alterations to traditional gameplay elements for the first of the 'A Total War Saga' series.

Here, we take a look at what gamers can expect when they pick up their Steam key for Thrones of Britannia.

Story and features

In A Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia, players will be tasked with re-writing a critical moment in history, one that will come to define the future of modern Britain. Five cultures make up the 'teams' as it were - including the Anglo-Saxons, Gaelic Kings, Viking Sea Kings, Welsh Kings, and the Great Viking Army - with 10 playable factions overall. Don't forget to check out our meet the factions blog post to find out more about them!

As with previous Total War games, players will have the opportunity to work with allies, manage burgeoning settlements, raise armies and embark on campaigns of conquest across the most detailed Total War map to date. Creative Assembly has made some pretty significant changes to their latest game, which will have an impact on how players raise their armies and go about their day-to-day lives as rulers.

Building advanced military buildings to unlock access to stronger troops is no longer needed, as players will be able to do so via the technology tree. Upon recruiting troops, you'll receive them at around 25% full strength, which will then increase after a few turns.

An advanced version of war weariness and war fervour, introduced in the Age of Charlemagne expansion for Total War: ATTILA, has also been included, as well as the removal of the hero skill tree system and the addition of dilemmas, which presents players with new ways to win and also changes the course of their campaign.
