We go together like winter and a sweater.

Fanatical Gift Guide - Best Steam Games to Play this Winter Holiday Period

We all know winter can be a stressful time of year. However, winter videogames can allow you to enjoy the snowy season without leaving your couch (please leave your couch sometimes). That said, here is our list of the best games to play this winter season.

SnowRunner

Saber Interactive answers the question “What if you were a cargo truck driver?” SnowRunner provides players with a chance to find out, so grab your radio and prepare to yeehaw as you drive across the rural roads of North America and Russia. Be quick though, as the places you visit are in desperate need for the precious cargo you have been tasked to transport. If you are going to crash your vehicle this winter, let it be in this simulator.

Steep

Not everyone can find time to enjoy what the snowy weather offers. However, with Ubisoft’s Steep you can take to the slopes without missing work or even leaving your house. From snowboards to paragliders, wingsuits, and skis, you’ll master the frozen mountains with your speed and tricks. Frostbite is not included.

South Park: The Stick of Truth

Developed by Obsidian Entertainment (yes you heard that right), South Park: The Stick of Truth is a near-seamless transition for the franchise from the small screen to the gaming community. As you follow the story, you will come across many familiar places and characters from the show. The little mountain town is currently covered in light snow, and its ponds are frozen over. But to me, this just reinforces everything that is fun about the game. While South Park: The Stick of Truth is definitely not a game to buy your child, the snowy setting always reminds me of playing outside with my friends after school.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Some of you may be wondering why Red Dead Redemption 2 is on this list. After all, its story is set in the old west of the United States, a time when progress and laws push ever further from the east. What you may be forgetting, however, is the variety of climates available on its game map. There are large areas of mountain roads and wild country that are covered in snow. For an open-world action-adventure videogame, Red Dead Redemption 2 is impressive with its day/night cycle, climates, and weather changes. Setting up a small camp in the northern parts of the map with the intent to cull the wolf population is a memorable experience for me.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales

If Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered was a great experience for you, then Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is going to sate your appetite. The character of Miles Morales has been around for a while but was introduced to players again during the Marvel’s Spider-Man Remasteredcampaign. This time however it’s Miles’ turn to shine; Peter Parker is out of town and it's your job to protect the city. I will also quickly mention that the game takes place around Christmas time — all of Manhattan is covered in snow. This provides a fresh feel of the big city that we have become so familiar with in the previous game.

There you have it, our list of the best games to play during the snowy months ahead. Who knew there was so much snow in videogames right?  Find out how to send a gift here!
