Activision's latest stab at battle royale will be available at no cost
Get ready to take the leap, because Call of Duty: Warzone is landing on March 10th - and it's completely FREE!
Publisher Activision made the official announcement with a brand new trailer, featuring high-octane battles and a rather unhealthy obsession with killing fellow players with helicopter propellers. As reported by Game Informer, COD Warzone will be a free-to-play FPS game that will be available from around 8am (PDT) for existing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players, and 12pm (PDT) for the rest of the world.
An in-depth look at Call of Duty: Warzone on the Activision blog shows that it will feature a large map (Verdansk) capable of hosting 150 players and with 300 'points of interest', along with two core game modes. Battle Royale, much like Black Ops 4, will feature the traditional 'last man standing' gameplay in either solo or team play - only this time it's competing in the F2P markets along with Fortnite and Apex Legends.
Instead of a mysterious dome, players will have to reach various positions on the map while escaping a deadly gas closing in. One cool feature about Warzone's Battle Royale mode is 'The Gulag' which is an area where fallen soldiers go for one last shot. You'll face-off against another player in 1v1 and, if successful, you'll be redeployed to the main fight.
However, if you lose and find yourself down on luck, your fellow teammates can bring you back with in-game cash earned from completed contracts.
The second confirmed mode is Plunder, where it's a race to collect the most in-match cash by looting across the map, taking down enemies to steal their cash and completing in-match contracts. You'll be able to save all of your precious loot from other players by deploying them ay up into the sky with a Cash Deposit Balloon.
Better still, COD: Warzone will also feature cross-platform for PS4, Xbox One and PC gamers.
