Ripping Vikings limb from limb will have to wait
A promising looking title from an Indie developer based in Stockholm has been put on hold - but the team has said a new project will be arriving soon.
Darkborn, a first-person stealth action game which was revealed by IGN in April 2019, saw players take on the role of a monster cub which belongs to a species being hunted down by barbaric Vikings and eerie pale face worshippers. From the 15-minute gameplay trailer released last year, we saw how your character gradually unearths new skills and grows into the ferocious monster that you were destined to become - learning devastating moves that allows you to decapitate enemies, as well as being able to pull out throats and hearts.
The game featured stealth mechanics including hiding in bushes and using your monster's skin flap wings to glide to safe locations out of sight, as well as sneaking up on enemies to perform fatal neck chomps and head bashes.
However, this upcoming title has been shelved for now - with developer The Outsiders stating that the it was a 'difficult decision' and one day hope to return to complete it for full release.
In a statement online, The Outsiders said: "Over the past four years we have been working on a game property we loved very much. This was once called Archenemy, [which] became Project Wight, and finally, Darkborn. Last April we released a gameplay trailer for Darkborn, knowing that it might be our final release.
"In spite of our best efforts to continue, ultimately we had to make the difficult decision to halt development on the project. Perhaps one day we will return to it: we all hope so and genuinely appreciate the support of everyone who followed us over the years."
The developer went onto say "But one door closes and another opens. We have been working on something else.
"On something new. Something awesome. Something we really love.
"We look forward to being able to share it all with you very very soon. So stay tuned. Stay safe"

Little is known about The Outsiders' new project which they talk so positively about but, as the developer has suggested, we expect to hear more information "very very soon". Ironically, news of this postponed Viking themed title fell on the same day as Ubisoft's big reveal of the upcoming action-adventure Assassin's Creed Valhalla, which takes place in a similar setting - with the world premiere trailer unveiled today.
The Outsiders team consists of David Goldfarb (Game Director on Payday 2) and Benjamin Cousins, who previously worked at DICE on the Battlefield franchise.
