Meet the actors bringing MK's popular characters to life

New Line’s Mortal Kombat movie reboot is well under way now with a lot of the cast confirmed for the film.
Due to release on March 5, 2021, it will be the first movie based on the popular game series since 1992. Simon McQuoid is directing and James Wan and Todd Garner are producing the fighting movie, which has confirmed it will contain the legendary Fatalities that the series is known for - as well as being R-rated.
Here, we take a look at the actors confirmed to be appearing in the movie's major roles.
Actors and roles confirmed so far

Jax – Mehcad Brooks
The former fashion model is more known for his roles on TV, with the highlight of his career so far being in Supergirl as photojournalist Jimmy Olsen, as well as The Desperate Housewives. He is regarded to be one of Hollywood’s most promising stars so the Mortal Kombat role could take his career to the silver screen for the foreseeable future.
Liu Kang – Ludi Lin
Chinese-Canadian actor is known for appearing in action movies as Power Ranger Zack and underwater warrior Murk from Aquaman. So, the high intensity role will be perfect for him.
Mileena – Sisi Stringer
Mortal Kombat will be the breakthrough role for the former assistant director with 2021 horror movie Bloody Hell the only other acting credit of hers to date.
Scorpion – Hiroyuki Sanada
Famous martial arts actor Hiroyuki Sanada brings his vast experience to the role of Scorpion. At 58 years old, he’s had credits on many fighting films including The Twilight Samurai.
Shang Tsung - Chin Han
Named one of Asia's 25 greatest actors of all time by CNNGo, Chin Han has a plethora of awards in his 20-year career, which includes acting credits on The Dark Knight and Contagion.
Sub-Zero - Joe Taslim
Indonesian actor Joe Taslim was a former Judo athlete so expect a lot of well-polished moves in his take of Sub-Zero. He also has martial arts training in Wushu and Taekwondo, so expect many different styles in the fights.
Sonya Blade - Jessica McNamee
Unlike the games, Sonya Blade won’t be played by MMA star Ronda Rousey. Instead taking on the role is Jessica McNamee, who isn’t known for her action-packed roles, but has previous roles in blockbuster movies such as The Meg and Battle of the Sexes.
