ELDEN RING
Elden Ring has been out for a while now, and there’s more people than ever trying their first Souls game. With that comes a whole new era of people looking for tips for the game, so we’re here to tell you exactly what you need to know about Elden Ring.
#5 There’s no shame in restarting
Something you’ll realize early on in Elden Ring is that it’ll take a while to work out exactly what you want to play as. Personally I restarted the game three times before I finally settled on a class and build that worked for me, so there’s really no shame in restarting the game. It’s made even easier by the fact that you can have multiple save files in Elden Ring
#4 Grinding is good, actually
People often claim that grinding in Souls-likes is somehow antithetical to the game, but I have a different opinion. Grinding in these games is the only way I’ve found myself actually surviving, especially in a game as brutal as Elden Ring. Some of those late game bosses will give you a run for your money regardless of your level, so take the time to find a spot that you like and milk it for all that it’s worth.
#3 Bosses Can Take Many Attempts
Okay, sure, this one doesn’t look like anything you didn’t already know. But it’s important to remember that in games like this, it’s all about pattern recognition. It’ll take you at least three attempts usually to just memorize the various attacks a boss has, and then you have to work out how exactly to block and protect against them. If you defeat a boss in one or two tries then it’s much more of a fluke than it is the norm, so get used to dying.
#2 Spend Your Damn Souls
Look, we know that you like seeing that number go up. It’s fun to see your souls exceed 100,000 and just get even bigger, but you just know that you’ll eventually run into something you can’t handle and lose all your souls. There’s no worse feeling than losing a ton of souls, so make sure that you actually level up or spend them at various merchants throughout the game.
#1 Take Breaks
Souls games are incredibly stressful experiences. They’re renowned for it, known for it, loved for it. But just because they’re loved for it it doesn’t mean you should push past anger. Take regular breaks to unwind and consider your options if you’re stuck on a section that’s really blocking you.
