What you'll get with this edition of the latest open-world action-adventure from Rockstar
Having being one of the highest rated games of the console generation, it was no surprise that Rockstar Games decided to bring Red Dead Redemption 2 to PC in November 2019, over a year on from its release on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
The critically-acclaimed, open-world action-adventure takes players back to the Wild West where gang warfare and unforgiving landscapes are the norm. Technology and society is evolving around you, but Dutch's gang almost seem stuck in their ways - fending off the law and living off the land as they look for their 'big break'.
The game acts as a prequel to the events of the original Red Dead Redemption from 2010, and gives you a better understanding of how the path of RDR1 protagonist John Marston came to be. As well as enjoying this stunning open-world title, Rockstar has also offered up two additional editions of the game to enjoy.
So, here's what's included in the Red Dead Redemption 2: Special Edition and why you need to check it out.
The base game (obviously)
America, 1899, and the Wild West era is coming to an end. After a robbery goes badly wrong in the western town of Blackwater, Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are forced to flee. With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive.
As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang who raised him. Throughout your journey, you'll be able to customize Arthur's looks - with hair growth as time passes - and equipment such as weapons and clothing.
There are hours upon hours of story missions to complete, which sees you travel across America by horse, cart or fast travel if you can't be bothered - and there are also plenty of side missions and live action tasks that can be completed to help the people you meet. Help fetch materials to build a house, cure a man from a snake bite... the possibilities are near enough endless.
As with RDR1, the Dead Eye mechanic makes a welcome return, allowing you to slow down time to pick out enemies or animals with extreme precision.
Wild and legendary beasts are roaming across this open environment, and you'll be tasked with hunting them down to collect new gear including perk-specific clothes and pouches to carry more ammo or items.
The PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 also features new Story Mode content including Bounty Hunting Missions, Gang Hideouts, Weapons and more. In addition, the game also offers HDR support, the ability to run high-end display setups with 4K resolution and beyond, multi-monitor configurations, widescreen configurations, faster frame rates and even more!
Red Dead Online
As well venturing across old America in the single-player campaign, you'll also have access to Red Dead Online - the vast multiplayer mode for Red Dead fans to do as they please in the Wild West. Much like GTA Online in GTA V, RDO gives you the chance to create and customize your own gunslinger, create or join your own posse, and head out on the road for free roaming action, or participate in missions.
As well as Free Roam events and Daily Challenges for some extra XP, RDO also features Showdown & Elimination modes that include attack-defend, battle royale and horse racing type events. You can also play a 'relaxing' game of Poker with friends and fellow players in towns and outposts - but no cheating, ya hear!
You'll also be able to choose one of three Specialist Roles - Bounty Hunter, Trader and Collector - each with unique paths of progression and providing their own experiences, allowing you to become even more deeply connected to your character and the choices you make.
With each Role, you’ll always have new pursuits to embark upon that lead to unique items and skills as you progress, in addition to cash and gold payouts. As you progress through each role, you will unlock new items, benefits and skills that enhance each role and your experiences across the world, from gun spinning tricks to improved Eagle Eye and more.
Special Edition exclusive content
