Plan the perfect heist with these great games

Top heist PC games you need to check out

Map out your entry and escape routes, select the right team for the job and get ready to share the spoils - it's heist time!

Inspired by the great fictional TV shows and movies, sometimes based on factual events, big score robberies and heists in video games give us an exciting buzz as we plan our way to a big payout, or hilariously fail in a chaotic mess where someone gets arrested or killed.

Precise moves, equipment and team members are vital for a successful heist - no matter how big the job or the reward. With the launch of the PAYDAY 2 Ultimate Bundle - featuring the highly-rated base game and 36 DLCs - we take a look at the top heist PC games that you need to check out!

Grand Theft Auto V

Grand Theft Auto V

One of the fastest and biggest-selling games in history, Grand Theft Auto V blew the lid off the game and entertainment industry when the open-world action-adventure launched back in 2013. The campaign sees players control three main protagonists as they look to make a killing (financially and sometimes physically) by pulling off huge heists.

Players have to choose their AI comrades who are most suited to the job at hand, with everything from the 'inside' guys to the a quick getaway.

But it was GTAV's online mode - GTA Online - that really took the game and the heist element to new heights. A team of players must work together to complete a series of set-up missions, working towards one big finale mission.

The Heist Leader chips in with an initial sum towards gear for the missions, and takes an entire cut from a percentage of the final take, which occurs after the last mission in the heist.

PAYDAY 2

PAYDAY 2

PAYDAY 2 is an action-packed co-op shooter that sees the original PAYDAY crew - Dallas, Hoxton, Wolf and Chains - descend on Washington DC for another epic crime spree. Up to four friends co-operate on a heist, and as the crew progresses, the jobs become bigger, better and more rewarding.

Along with earning more money and becoming a legendary criminal comes a new character customization and crafting system that lets crews build and customize their own guns, gear and iconic masks. In addition, the new CRIMENET network offers a huge range of dynamic contracts, and players are free to choose anything from small-time convenience store hits or kidnappings, to big league cyber-crime or emptying out major bank vaults for that epic PAYDAY.

Each job allows for multiple approaches, such as slow and stealthy ambushes, to running in guns blazing. Hit the target any way you want, and watch as the heist unfolds accordingly!

Monaco: What's Yours Is Mine

Monaco: What's Yours Is Mine

Assemble a crack team of thieves, case the joint, and pull off the perfect heist in Monaco: What's Yours Is Mine. Whether you go it alone in single-player or opt for local/online co-op, you'll be able to compete with other Steam players via daily leaderboards.

This 2D stealth Indie has eight different characters that you can choose from, each with their own unique traits to help pull off the heist in the best way possible - whether it's the sneak approach or keeping an eye on your surroundings, or the brute entry and murderous tactics.

Voted 'Very Positive' on Steam, Monaco: What's Yours Is Mine also includes level editor support.

Borderlands 2

Borderlands 2

It's a shoot & LOOT, after all!

'Overwhelmingly Positive' Steam rated Borderlands 2 gives players the opportunity to obtain precious items throughout, with a bazillion weapons on the table. This game springs to mind for the top heist games list due to the bank mission in the western-esque town of Lynchwood.

Players have to kill the town's notorious bandit boss to get some dynamite, which is then coated in alien bile (nice) to give it that extra kick, in order to bust through the vault.

THIEF: The Bank Heist

THIEF: The Bank Heist

The famous Stonemarket First Bank, known to be many as the 'unbreachable' - but not to you!

In THIEF's The Bank Heist DLC, protagonist Garrett must infiltrate the City’s most secure location to retrieve the coveted Hudnall family’s necklace, an item all local thieves are desperate to get their hands on. None so far have managed to snatch it… will you be able to outsmart the Bank’s security to steal this rare artefact?

A homage to the bank mission in Thief II: The Metal Age, this additional content will see you outsmart security measures and search for the Bank’s unique loot and many other secrets.

The Grand Heist

Still in its 'Coming Soon' phase on Steam, The Grand Heist looks like a pretty cool isometric action strategy game which is set in the 1930s. Every mission can give you custom objectives, with various obstacles and challenges.

Enemies are smart to your movement and, if you leave something behind, they'll track you down. Players can distract guards by breaking glass or using screams to lure them to a specific room or area.

Steal to gather currency and spend it on a variety of improvements for your character's abilities. We're expecting a 2020 release for The Grand Heist, so keep an eye out!
