Milla Jovovich is kicking monster ass in the trailer for the upcoming movie
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition
She's had enough of booting and shooting zombies in the face, now Milla Jovovich is taking on bigger 'fish' in the upcoming Monster Hunter movie.
The film, based off Capcom's hugely Monster Hunter: World and Monster Hunter series, sees a group of soldiers transported through a portal into a realm of gigantic, ferocious beasts that could pose a threat to their homeworld.
Jovovich, who plays Captain Natalie Artemis, leads the group on a mission to get back home without being trampled, burnt to a crisp or being generally destroyed by the monsters that they encounter. Fans of the Resident Evil movies can expect a similar vibe from Monster Hunter, as director Paul Anderson is on board - which no doubt led to Jovovich landing the leading role.
Monster Hunter's expected budget is around $60 million, a smidge more than the $35 million budget for the first Resident Evil movie.
Confirmed actors include Tony Jaa (Furious 7), a trained stuntman and action choreographer who will be playing 'The Hunter' and Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Sons of Anarchy) who will take on the role of 'Admiral', who MHW players will remember from the 2018 released game. Other cast members include Meagan Good (Shazam!), Diego Boneta (Terminator: Dark Fate), rappers Clifford 'T.I' Joseph Harris Jr (Ant-Man and the Wasp) and Jin 'MC' Au-Yeung (The Man with the Iron Fists), and Josh Helman (X-Men: Apocalypse).
Anderson has played the most recent game himself to get up to speed on the overall feel of Monster Hunter, as well as ensuring that the armor and weapons that the Hunters wear is based on the equipment in the game series. He also met with Capcom's Ryozo Tsujimoto (Producer) and Kaname Fujioka (Executive Director & Art Director) to show the team how Impact Pictures, Constantin Film and Sony Pictures Entertainment have brought their game world to the big screen - which, from the snippet video we saw on social media recently, went very well.
Big monsters confirmed to be making an appearance in the movie from the game so far are Diablos and Rathalos, with small monsters such as Apceros and what appear to be Hornetaurs also featuring. One large monster that we saw small glimpses of in the trailer has not been officially confirmed, but some fans are suggesting that it could be Gore Magala - a fourth generation monster that didn't make the cut in MHW.
The film is still due to arrive this December despite lockdowns and restrictions due to coronavirus, which will signal the end of an eventful year for Monster Hunter: World and Iceborne, following the final big update which saw Fatalis arrive in the New World.
If you haven't played the latest game in the critically-acclaimed, record-selling franchise yet, you can pick up your officially licensed Monster Hunter: World Steam PC key from Fanatical right now. The Monster Hunter World: Iceborne DLC expansion takes the action RPG to new heights with a brand-new wintry ecosystem and plenty more monsters to fight - which can be purchased together with the base game in the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition.
