2 Great Games featuring Sonic the Hedgehog That You Must Play & Why

Sonic’s 31st anniversary is coming up on the 23rd of June and is being celebrated with the release of Sonic Origins. Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD are included in this collection, but what other games featuring our blue speed machine should you make sure to check out?

Puyo Puyo Tetris 2

This may sound like an incredibly odd choice but I assure you that it is a crazy fun puzzle title. Not only can Sonic run, but he can clear lines in Tetris and pop cute puyos to clear the screen in Puyo Puyo. This game is great whether you are playing it on your own or locally against up to three other friends, or online. Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 has a huge selection of modes to choose from like Adventure Mode which is essentially story mode and helps you learn how to play the puzzles — and meet the characters or Versus Mode, where you select Tetris or Puyo Puyo to play. It really starts getting crazy when you play Switch Mode where it changes between the two every 25 seconds, or Fusion Mode where both puyos and tetrominoes fall and you have to clear lines. There are other modes to play too but these are just a few of my favourites. What is Sonic better at? Puyo Puyo or Tetris? According to his profile, he is better at Puyo Puyo!

Sonic the Hedgehog 4

Released in 2010, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is a sequel to Sonic & Knuckles and is a return to when the Sonic series was great. This title recreates four of the zones players loved from the original Sonic the Hedgehog game, while at the same time adding enough to make them feel new and not exactly the same as the original levels. Sonic gets to ride minecarts, flip over playing cards in a casino-themed level, and carries a torch through the darkly lit labyrinth or falls through the air to collect Chaos Emeralds in the special stage. This is still the 2D platformer you know and love from the Sonic series but the visuals have been updated from the original game to give everything a more 3D look. This title is great for players who want the retro feel with more modern, updated graphics.

These titles may not be obvious choices, but definitely worth trying out if you want to check out something different with Sonic until you get to pick up Sonic Origins, or just add to your collection of fun games with Sonic the Hedgehog!
