Are ya ready, kids?

What Is SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake?

Whilst the leading man (sponge?) himself — SpongeBob — needs no introduction, being easily recognised the world over, today we’re going to be taking a look at his latest videogame adventure, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake, and finding out what it’s all about.

Firstly, whilst it is a platformer title that has some similarities to SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated, this is more of a spiritual sequel, which developer Purple Lamp Studios began after the financial success of Rehydrated. The previous game was, however, a remake of a title from 2003, and it quite often showed its age, so expect this new one to have all the modern and precise controls gamers have come to expect from platformers.

As an entirely new and original game, The Cosmic Shake sees you playing as SpongeBob, who has a wide variety of abilities available to use — such as the “Fishhook Swing” — in order to navigate the game's many levels, which themselves are directly tied to the story.

SpongeBob and his best friend Patrick have unearthed some Mermaid’s Tears, which are said to grant the wishes of whomever possess them. Obviously, this leads to the duo going slightly overboard and causing chaos in Bikini Bottom, opening up portals to Wishworlds; dream-inspired fantasy worlds full of cowboys, pirates, and knights! Oh, and Patrick has been transformed into a balloon to accompany SpongeBob on his quest. Naturally!

Each of the seven Wishworlds will feature a distinct theme mixed with classic locations from the show: Wild West Jellyfish Fields, for example. Not only that, The Cosmic Shake will include over 30 different costumes for SpongeBob that will not only delight fans, but prove useful in his platforming adventures.

Perhaps the best piece of information (if you’re a fan of the show) is that all the original voice actors are here, meaning you won’t have an off-sounding Mr. Krabs, or a Squidward that’s just a tad too nasally. As an extra treat, over 100 songs from the TV show will be included as the game’s musical themes!

So that’s what we know about SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake, which is shaping up to be a fun-filled, silly platformer with a charming cast of characters and lots to see and do!
