Because the French Revolution was in fact won by robots.
Steelrising
Developed by Spiders (the developer behind GreedFall) and published by Nacon, Steelrising is a brand-new game set in Paris near the end of the 18th century.
Thanks to numerous trailers, we have quite a bit of information regarding the game and decided to stockpile it all under one article for ease of access. Here is everything we know about Steelrising thus far.
Setting & Graphics
Steelrising is set in a reimagined French Revolution (or Revolution of 1789) where France's king at the time — Louis XVI — created a mechanical army to subdue the civilians of Paris. Fighting fire with fire, players will take control of the automaton masterpiece created by Jacques de Vaucanson — a famous French inventor credited for the first all-metal lathe in real life — named Aegis.
Walk the streets of a Paris torn apart by a war against itself, as the game's world is set in a dark setting envisioning what would occur when the horrors of automatons bring about the city's destruction. Players will be able to navigate and explore the streets, rooftops, and even the castle as they see fit in order to bring about an end to the war.
Gameplay
We don't know a whole lot about Steelrising's gameplay aside from the singular trailer showcasing Aegis using a wide arsenal of weaponry to bring about the demise of her automaton foes. These weapons will vary in fighting style, including heavy and light, or also melee and ranged. One such ranged weapon we’ve seen is the Manriki chain-like armament that Aegis wields at the beginning of the trailer.
Aside from the Manriki chain weapon, we get to see Aegis wielding numerous others, including a spear, some lightning rods, an axe, and even dual-wielding several weapons such as swords. Aside from the combat system and varied enemies present throughout the trailer, we don't know much more about the gameplay.
Release Date
Before we can take control of Aegis and ensure the victory for the Revolution, we must first wait for the game's imminent release. At the time of writing, Steelrising should be expecting a release on the 8th of September, which was delayed from its original release date showcased in numerous trailers, June 2022.
