A Great Addition to the Franchise

The game itself is very enjoyable, but at the time of writing this, am still getting to grips with it. What I can say is, it's a welcome change of being able to leave your vehicle and play out the new game. This looks great with an RTX GPU and runs smoothly, contrary to some of the previous game reviews. Unfortunately, Frontier Developments still don't accept Steam keys, if you take the direct route, but keys work perfectly through there regardless. So anybody with doubts about keys, needn't worry about issues from this site.

Another layer to an already multilayered game.

Although I've been playing ED pretty much since release, I still find myself struggling with a lot of it's systems and BGM. This is compounded by the fact that I often take lengthy breaks from the game only to come back and find the game has either evolved or changed. When Horizons released, I spent a lot of time with it and eventually learned how to properly and quickly land on and take off from planets. It wasn't easy but once I did I loved ED even more. I was hesitant to jump right into Odyssey at release (mainly due to all the bad things people had to say about it) so I waited. Now that I've finally played it for myself, I'm glad I waited. From what I've seen so far, many of the initial complaints seem to be moot. It runs well for me, looks great and genuinely adds another layer to an already multilayered game. Being able to walk around stations and bases feels great and is a natural fit for this game. The combat hasn't blown me away but I feel like that's because I'm not very good at it at the moment. Much like planetary landings, it's probably going to take me awhile to get the hang of it. Odyssey provides you with a tutorial that feels like someone describing to a non swimmer how to swim then pushing them into the deep end. After the tutorial mission, I immediately went on several combat missions and failed them all. Either because l had no idea where to go, got killed immediately or didn't bring something I had no idea I needed to complete the mission. It's frustrating and feels a bit unfair but that's ED in a nutshell. This game refuses to hold your hand and either you like it or you don't. ED doesn't care about your feelings and I kind of respect it for that.

Well implemented, if uninspiring. Hopefully in (another) 12 months the foundations provided by this expansion will allow for a greater space-legs experience. In its current state I could only recommend avid fans buy this.

Nice addition to already vast space trucker simulator, but not without performance or crash issues.

Neat addition to an already vast game

Getting the space feet was one of the greatly awaited things for the series and this pack certainly delivers, at least in part. While buggy and crashy on Steam, there's still a certain charm to being able to walk on the surface of the planets instead of being confined to the premises of one's SRV. I could nitpick some about the astronomical upgrade costs for the personal equipment and the difficulty of actually finding the items to upgrade the stuff, but that's very similar to ship upgrades if you've encountered it in the main game. There's been reports of performance issues, so keep in mind if you decide to upgrade.
