The official licensed version of the ‘Mensa Select’ award-winning board game, Hive brings a new twist to a classical pastime.
Hive, also winner of ‘International Gamers Awards’ and ‘Dr. Toy: Product of Excellence’, is a board game with a difference - there is no board. The pieces are added to the playing area, producing the board as players tactically move towards their opponent. As more and more pieces are added, the game becomes a fight to see who can be the first to capture the opposing Queen Bee by surrounding them.
TACTICAL EDGE
Much like chess, Hive has different insects which can only move in certain ways; the soldier ant can move to any position on the outside of a players’ hive, while the beetle can only move one space but can also be placed onto and across the hive.
Jump over a line of pieces using the grasshopper, or use the spider to move three places in one turn. Be sure to utilize the different insects at your disposal and defeat your opposition – whether it be against the computer, a friend or online – whilst keeping a close eye on your own Queen Bee to avoid any fatal errors that would result in your downfall.
FUN FOR ALL
Whether players are regulars or novices when it comes to board games, this unique approach will offer hours of fun. Expect plenty of bugs, but not in the game-crashing way.

- Hive - The Ladybug: The Ladybug adds some new tactics to the traditional Hive game. The Ladybug works as a cross between a spider and a beetle. They are able to climb up on top of the hive for two spaces, before they have to ascend back down to the main level. This allows you to move quickly and easily across the hive in ways you previously couldn't, which will allow you to sneak up on your opponent. You can use the Ladybug in all of the game modes available in the core Hive game, including online, local, and games against the computer. You can also earn new achievements that can only be granted using the Ladybug.
- Hive - The Mosquito: The Mosquito has no movement abilities of its own, but is able steal the movement abilities of any insect that it currently touches. This can ultimately change a match very quickly as it isn't always easy to see what your opponent is plotting. You can use the Mosquito in all of the game modes available in the core Hive game, including online, local, and games against the computer. Again, you can also earn new achievements that can only be granted using the Mosquito.
- Hive - The Pillbug: The Pillbug adds a lot of depth and new strategies to Hive. While the Pillbug itself moves slowly - just like the Queen (ie. one space at a time) - it does have its own special ability. The Pillbug is able to pick up its neighboring pieces and move them regardless of whether they are a friends or foe. The Pillbug adds a whole new level of defensive and offensive strategy to the game. The Pillbug is available to use in all of the game modes in the core Hive game, including online, local, and games against the computer. Players can also earn new achievements that can only be granted using the Pillbug's special abilities.
