About Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak

About this DLC

In Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak you leave Kamura Village behind and travel to Elgado Outpost to help stop a new threat. With new monsters, new locales, and your trusty Wirebug, you’ll be busier than ever.

New enemies

You’ll be tasked with defeating the Three Lords — Malzeno, Lunagaron and Garangolm — brand new monsters being introduced to the world of Monster Hunter. But they’re not the only thing you’ll have to worry about, as a bunch of older monsters are stomping their way back into the series, some making their first ever appearance on PC! Don’t count out the existing monsters though, as they might not be exactly as you remember them…

Follower quests

In Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak you’re not just going to be joined by your trusty Palicoes and Palamutes, you’re going to be able to get certain NPCs to join you on the hunt! Each one will have their own weapons, allowing you to choose who you think will compliment your playstyle best.

Get ready for Master Rank

While you will have your work cut out for you trying to defeat the Three Lords and all that entails, the new Master Rank is sure to put your skills to the test. Prove that you have what it takes to hunt anything of any size at any time, and show the world how high you can rise.

Note: You must own Monster Hunter Rise in order to play this expansion. Sunbreak content is accessible after completion of the 7-star Hub quest “Serpent Goddess of Thunder”.

Great fun and a great point to start from.

First off let me say I am a little biased towards the game. I have been playing the monster hunter series since the first one on the pso2. But I honestly have to say this was one of the best in the series. Controls are smooth and easy to pick up, yet leaves a high enough bar to consider yourself a master. While graphically it isn't as pretty as world was. Mechanically it is way better. And contrary to some people's opinions the game is not super easy. Yes early hunts are not difficult but as you progress they get tougher. This also a great entry point for newcomers. The game eases you into things so by the time you are doing lvl 100+ anomaly investigations you will be a competent hunter. The game has follower quest for those people that don't want to do coop. And it can be fun. Though in coop with others is where the game really shines. There is something so satisfying about facing a monster as a group and beating it together. And with free updates and additional quest being added weekly. There is plenty of content.

It’s a great first dlc for Rise, the new mechanics add more depth to every weapon and every new monster (and those that come back from older games) are much welcome addition to the game as it’s monster selection was lacking compared to world (which was understandable considering World have had years of update and new content compared to rise which was brand new and had to work on the switch. Hope they keep going in this direction!

Maintains all of the base game's "quirks" on pc, makes them even worse by having monsters have no downtime whatsoever now (even when knocked down), adds a massive rng-based (but VERY sparse) endgame, BUT mod support makes up for all of the pc version's woes. Follower system fixes all the matchmaking problems the pc version added, especially with the mod to allow you to bring followers everywhere and scale their damage up to player levels. New switch skills add some variety to weapons, but are usually so powerful they totally invalidated all play-styles but a select few. All weapons have a max level version, but only 2-3 are viable. New monsters are few, but each of them feel the same because of how fast every monster is now (made worse on pc due to tying monster down states to framerate). Just about everything can be customized in game with mods though, which makes this the definitive version.

Pretty fantastic DLC on top of MH:R. Just be forewarned it’s a lot more challenging with the new monster move sets, so it’s a lot harder to just dodge around. You’ll need to learn how to counter a lot of the monsters attacks. Other than that, it’s a lot more of the same; more monsters, more armour, more weapons, etc. The story itself isn’t anything groundbreaking as it’s mostly there just to give you a reason to go to a new area and hunt, but everything else is great and this is highly recommended if you’re an MH fan.

The way Monster Hunter does their DLC is BY FAR my favourite way of doing DLC. What better to give than more of the same?! You get a game on top of your game with regular updates for new monsters and quests!

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak has been enjoyable to me. I love the new stuff they added to the new and old maps (I.e. new materials and places to bash the monster into), as well as hunting the new monsters. I also think that this game is better played with friends.
