TBH, I was sceptical about getting this, but took a chance at the allure of “ Welcome to the Ruhr Valley District
Explore 500 kilometers around Gladbeck and 12 other cities in the Ruhr Valley District. A total of 35 bus lines promise unprecedented variety, while 24-hour operation guarantees around-the-clock driving pleasure. We have added additional new bus models for an excellent experience:
The C2 was modeled on the original buses produced by Vestische Straßenbahnen Gmbh. To accommodate more passengers, the articulated C2-G model is also included”. -in my mind- worth a try. First off I’ve only run two routes -there and back- Both worked flawless without going into the 58page manual. The ‘Movie Park’ route was a nice out of town into and out of some small village streets (nice ambience outside the cinema -you could here a theme park nearby and clearly audible voices over loudspeakers- which are no doubt tight! This is where the negativity comes in, I used the solo in the game and I still clipped kerbs with the wheels, you could do it extremely slowly, but timetables etc make you a bit hasty. Aside from that, performance was fine - there’s 3 settings in the OMSI2 preload menu, as per pretty much all maps- The manual is very comprehensive inc all top down views of depots and stands as well as all the routes inc nighttime runs and sightseeing places. The inc bus (C2) is sweet! 12-meter and articulated 18-meter 2015 model vehicles. Auto kneeling, a camera above the driver with views to the exit door which enables automatically below 5kph and a standard view of passengers getting up/getting ready to exit, without much effort to glance up at - I use TrackIR- nice acceleration an excellent ticket machine, Driver Management System (“RIBAS“)
bus is equipped with a device to monitor driver behavior. In the left window, is the RIBAS unit. A buzzer and LED lights register if you:
1. Drive at speeds of more than 2000 revolutions per minute
2. Accelerate too quickly
3. Brake too hard
4. Idle longer than 3 minutes
5. Drive faster than 72 km/h
There is also internal widescreen displays for passengers: routes and stops inc announcements. For ‘free’ buses, they are easily another DLC in itself.
In all, yes the map has some areas not better than others, but this is primarily about driving the bus, it’s features, road variety and passengers. Compared to a couple of short routes in other OMSI2 DLC, this is already way ahead in the value.
