About Stellaris: Distant Stars Story Pack DLC

About this DLC

Distant Stars is a new discovery-themed story pack, where players will uncover new anomalies and storylines, and encounter strange new beings in the uncharted depths of space. Distant Stars will also feature new surprises that may help or harm ambitious explorers.

The Distant Stars Story Pack will include:

BEHIND CLOSED DOORS

Discover hidden traces of an ancient gateway network unlocking a sealed path to a constellation outside our own galaxy. But is this door holding something out, or keeping something in?

SENSORS ARE PICKING UP… THAT CAN'T BE RIGHT

Encounter dozens of new anomalies and events for your intrepid scientists to observe and analyze, and a galaxy of wonders for them to discover.

BRAVE NEW WORLDS

Plot unexplored unique solar systems, each with their own story to tell. Gain technology, resources, and valuable worlds to colonize

THERE'S ALWAYS A BIGGER FISH

Come face to face with a number of unique gargantuan creatures that exist and thrive in the vacuum of space. But approach with caution, because whether gentle giants or something more sinister, these legendary behemoths have existed long before you and will do what it takes to survive long after.

I love stellaris, and anything that adds more content to the already massive have is always good in my eyes!

Some good content marred by a horrible unbalanced event that can instantly end your game

Some of the content in this DLC is great and is exactly what a space 4X needs to augment the experience: new anomalies, event chains, and space monsters. It even got content added after release, a rarity for DLCs. Unfortunately one of the features that you can't turn off is the infamous L-Gates. They spawn around the galaxy and can be opened by you or the AI through research. There are different outcomes to the opening, but one of them spawns multiple waves of incredibly powerful fleets that proceed to destroy the whole galaxy, leaving planets uncolonizable. It was a pretty bad idea from the start, and random selection seems to have always been broken for some people who kept getting the world-destroying scenario outcome, but recently with versions 3.+ it seems to spawn earlier than ever with some AI beating you to it. For anyone except an expert player or perhaps someone playing at minimum difficulty with huge bonuses, this is the end of your run. The AI countries certainly won't help you, they are powerless in comparison, and the Galactic Council is tragi-comically unaware that everyone is getting destroyed: it keeps debating on recycling and preservation of space whales. As is unfortunately often the case for Paradox Games Studios games, this is therefore yet another unfinished and unbalanced DLC with some good ideas they could never translate into actual interesting gameplay.
