About Autonauts

About this game

Travel the universe colonising uninhabited planets with the sole goal of setting worlds in motion through the power of automation.

Fresh from your spaceship you must harvest stick and stone and begin your colonisation efforts. Create rudimentary crafting items from blueprints and slowly build a number of workerbots to aid in your efforts. Teach and shape their artificial intelligence with a visual programming language, then instruct them to begin the formation of your colony. Marvel as a planet you’ve shaped becomes home to a civilisation of workerbots, happy to do your bidding!

Expand further with the creation of colonists; beings that require your assistance to survive. Push your workerbots further by introducing fishing, cooking, housing, and tailoring and help the colonists into a state of transcendence.

Key Features:

Playful Programming

Teach your workerbots requisite steps to complete tasks by asking them to repeat actions utilising a visual programming language. Designed to be easy to learn but with added complexity there are numerous possibilities.

Automated Automation

Build an army of bots to automate just about everything in your colony, teach them what to do and expand both their brains and task possibilities with numerous upgrades and options.

Various Ventures

From gathering to building, cooking, fishing, tailoring, farming, animal husbandry and more - the world of Autonauts is vast with limitless opportunities to automate and colonise.

Charming Creativity

The world of Autonauts pops to life with a low-poly art-style married with a consistent and bright colour palette adding depth and scale, creating a relaxing and attractive play space.

Autonauts combines the very best of agriculture, simulation, crafting, building, production-line and resource management titles to create a brand new experience unlike any other. Create the automated world of your dreams! The future is now!

"Once you get going and start experimenting, you'll realise just how astonishingly complex, and wonderfully inventive, Autonauts really is."

The Digital Fix

80 / 100
"While a bit simplistic in some ways, the simplicity of Autonauts lends itself beautifully to engaging gameplay and fun to all who play it."

Guardian

80 / 100
"While wildly ornate, Autonauts is in equal parts playful, welcoming and charming. It is comparable to the cute farming sim Stardew Valley, yet it is very much its own game. And...

Autonauts is a game that surprised me for its simplicity and at the same time for its concept. I am a father and I bought it for my child with the aim of teaching him, in a playful way, the principles of automation and also logic. In the game you create small programmed routines that produce different results in the bots as the elements are being inserted or removed, being a very interesting way to introduce the little ones in the world of programming, for example. But Autonauts proved to be a fun game with great replayability also for me as an experienced gamer, thus being a title more than recommended for the whole family!

You go and collect resources, create bots and bots do everything for you, and then you can make bots make bots and in general you just run and control the buzz

An automation game for people who like to take games at their own pace.

A fun game all about automation. While it's not as nearly complex as say Factorio. This game hits a nice middle level groove of never pressuring the player, so that you can take all the time you want. Resources are infinite (it may not seem like it always, but they are), so you can spend leisurely as much time as you want keeping it simple, or making it as complex and wild as you want! At the time I'm reviewing this I had well over 100 hours on one game, slowly plucking away at getting all the achievements and in game goals. The tiering system is excellent at helping you build upon what you learn, and making you think about how you can more streamline your process through making more robots and orders. I would say that the biggest issue I have with the game is that the programming system it uses can be too basic at times. Where I would find that no matter how I tried to code it or loop it, it wouldn't be able to be done with just one or two robots, and would have to pass the task among several. It can be a little annoying, but in the spirit of the game, when in doubt MAKE MORE ROBOTS!

Great starting point for automation games, but not offering much for veterans.

I feel like this is a good starting game for those who want to get into automation games. Its simplistic aesthetics make for a very clear network of automation, and once you get the ball rolling you'll be ready to craft all sorts of fun stuff! It's a bit lacking compared to games like Factorio, Satisfactory, or Dyson Sphere Program.

Really fun, cute automation game. It uses robots that you code your self, instead of conveyor belts, so it feels more personal. Eventually it does scale to tedious proportions, however.

Fun coding at the start turns into less of a game and more of a list of tasks to complete with no challenge

So in general this is an okay game and I will keep playing it but I can't find it in myself to give this game a recommendation. But let me explain. The general idea is nice. Collecting stuff and slowly building up production lines with robots and moving on to making more and more stuff. The variety of products is there and you never run out of things to do. BUT: the game is SOOOO VERY slow! After 16 hours playing I am still at the very beginning because production is so complex and working out how to do something new is not that easy. It took me a while to figure out how to get seeds or figuring out what to use for harvesting pumpkins because the game does not tell you anything. The robots are constantly out of power and there is so much teh little character you control has to do that you can barely manage everything. After 16 hours I cannot feel accomplishment because I feel like I made a step forward. I only play this game while watching netflix or listening to lectures because the game itself just does not provide enough content to really capture your interest for a longer time. The archievements are another issue because they are these grinding ones, for which you have to "Collect 5000 of x", "collect 2000 of y", which is just boring and not rewarding at all. They are jsut meant to make people play the game more to get all the archievements, which I personally hate in games. All in all I don't think 20€ are not worth what you are getting, which is why I can't recommend it.
