Are you ready to tackle your biggest case yet? Step into the shoes of Howard Lotor, a private eye detective and experience Backbone — a game inspired by film noir, the existential philosophy of Sartre, and the works of Lynch and Kaufman, among other things!
In Backbone, you’ll explore a dystopian world crawling with anthropomorphic animals whilst you experience the compelling narrative of the game, centered heavily around personal change and transformation.
Backbonme's gameplay is heavily focused on storytelling and emotional expression, meaning that you'll find rich and elaborate dialogue inspired by old-school CRPG. How the story ends cannot be changed, but you can define who Howard is by choosing from the dialogue options.
Explore the city's downtrodden and flourishing districts in this dystopian version of it. You'll even get to visit iconic Vancouver locations like Gastown, Granville and Fairmont Hotel. Though dangerous, bleak, and dready, the world isn't without any hope; there are plenty of people with the drive to make a difference... it just isn't always for the better.
Backbone's graphic style is very alluring, as it combines high-resolution pixel art and 3D effects like dynamic lighting, pouring rain, and volumetric fog. It's interesting style is only enhanced by the post-soviet aesthetic mixed in with anthropomorphic animals.
Additionally, Backbone is playable on the Steam Deck, too!
