Nice souls like game but with a metroidvania style to it. Not disappointing.

The game is great. If you are a fan of Fromsoftware style boss fights and cryptic worldbuilding you will feel right at home in this dark mid evil fantasy full of disturbing and twisted religious iconography.

Blasphemous is the best of a 2D metroidvania.

Blasphemous is a 2D metroidvania with a lot of religious elements turned into horror.First of all I'd like to say I've got more hours than Steam has recorded due to offline mode. Thanks to the "recent" free DLC that added NG+, with 3 optional challenge modes that change the playstyle. A much needed and refreshing DLC. Worth mentioning the devs confirmed new DLC will be coming too.

Great atmosphere, less than optimal combat/movement, more than fulfilling story.

This game is often described as being a cheeky combination of Hollow Knight and Dead Cells, and on that account I can't really say I disagree, it most certainly does take inspiration from both games, but adds enough of it's own charm that I wouldn't refer to it as derivative. It's worldbuilding, storylines, music, and most of all atmosphere are all absolutely top notch for the genre and alone justify the price of the game. The only places I believe it falls short is in both movement and combat. While the game doesn't offer too many platforming challenges, the ones that are there are barely short of painful and feel more reliant on luck than actual practice of the game's mechanics (which are unreliable to say the least). The combat, while not *bad*, can feel a little stale at times with there not being too much variety in enemy types, most of the "abilities" you unlock also don't get used nearly enough to justify the effort required to get them, though that particular problem is one that many in the genre face, including Hollow Knight with it's "nail arts". Aside from normal enemies though, each of the boss fights felt entirely unique in their own way and provided an exceptional experience, with the last few in the true ending being especially fun to repeat and learn. A lot of people complain about the backtracking in the game but I honestly didn't find it too much of an issue, especially considering it's souls-like nature. The game does, however, kind of trick you into replaying it more often than you'd like, with some questlines being extremely vague about their (usually very specific) requirements and literal chunks of the game being easily missed if you don't frequently check the wiki. All in all though it's far from a bad game and if you're in it for the story it'll definitely satisfy.

This is a pretty fun game, I've enjoyed my time with it. Love the art style, the atmosphere and the story. Combat is fun, games really reminds me of Castlevania somewhat, love it.

Really enjoyable souls-like metroidvania, platformer type game. Can be really challenging and takes a bit to get into but well worth the price tag for the graphics and unique story.

A sorrowful mystery with over-the-top action

Beautiful Pixelated Non-Stop Action

I am a sucker for mysterious pseudo-Christian worlds (e.g. Diablo 1/2) and this game builds an incredible immersive universe that keeps pulling me in. I am ~12 hours into the game, and I can be a little bit lost there sometimes, but I enjoy my wanderings. The story is gripping, although, to be honest, I still do not know what I am doing, who I am, or where I am. Is it some sort of hell or just a world amidst a supernatural calamity? Am I a hero or a villain? Do my antagonists deserve the fate I am unleashing on them with my blade? I get the feeling that I am supposed to feel this way, so I will keep on playing. The world is beautiful, even though often disturbing. Somehow pixelated graphics goes perfectly well with the narration and beautifully haunting Spanish guitar-laden music score. UPDATE: I finished the game and still have no idea what happened. If you are into great worldbuilding with incomprehensible story and good controls and action, get it. Otherwise - stay clear.
