A different kind of card battler

I bought this game as part of a bundle, expecting yet another card battler. That's what it is, and yet it's not. It will start out similar to most other card battlers that you're familiar with. The big difference is that instead of having a certain amount of "energy" to spend each turn, you have a total amount to spend and that's it. Some cards will let you steal more, thus extending what you can do in that battle, but when it's gone, it's gone. As you explore each map, you'll find "power-ups" that permanently increase your energy and creature caps. So you start the game with a few weak cards and grind to get new, better cards, combine cards to make them more powerful, increase you points, get better gear, etc. The other big difference from normal card battlers is that most fights you can/will win on the very first turn. Which cards to play and in what order and who to attack and in what order are the crux of this battle system.... to the point that it quickly started feeling less like a typical card battler and more like a puzzle game for me. There are bosses (currently 2 I think) and you will have to grind considerably to be ready to take them on, but even with them the battles have a more puzzley feel to them. That's not better or worse than other games of this type.... just different. Overall I like this game and I think I will be playing it for a while. There are lots of cards leading to very many possible strategies you can develop and more on the way. But honestly I don't know how long it will hold my interest. If you like card battlers and are looking for something slightly different than everything else that's out there, this one is definitely worth a look.
