About Carto

About this game

Carto is a charming adventure game wrapped around a unique, world-altering puzzle mechanic. Use this power to explore mysterious lands, help a quirky cast of characters, and guide Carto on her journey back to her family.

Separated from her Granny during a storm, young Carto must use her innate cartography powers to map and manipulate the world around her on her quest to be reunited. I played the demo for the game and was able to get a cheap key for it. I was eager to play the game as the demo was really fun and the idea of the whole thing is interesting: solving puzzles by manipulating the map. it worked well in the demo and I was looking forward to the rest of the game. Sadly, I was disappointed. While most people seem to have had a lot of fun playing it, my experience differed. The game looks amazing and the story is somewhat there (nothing that special though), music is nice and everything. But: controls on keyboard are HORRIBLE and it becomes such a chore to play this game because of unintuitive keybindings (you can't even change) and constant mistyping. The puzzles also turn out to be very very weird later on. I had to look up a guide more times than not to solve a "puzzle" because the solution was just so... stupid? and nothing i would have come up with myself. Might just be a "me" problem, maybe I think differently than the game wants me to think like but it just didn't work for me. Wanna catch fish in a lake? Better make the lake look like the fish u wanna catch! WTF??!?!? The gameplay apart from the puzzles is a whole lot walking back and forth, across the whole map (yes, you can just move the map pieces but that is even more work than just walking there). I also don't think the original 20 bucks for the game is justified, playing though it takes ~ 5 hours.
