After playing Cat Quest I, my bf and I were both looking forward to Cat Quest II as it offered the possibility to play it together.
We both don't know why it is only remote play together but it still works as an "online-coop".
The first few quest in this game already let us know that a lot has changed from the first game. Enemies look the same but have added ranged attacks, their attack and HP are higher and they attack way quicker than before. I am personly not a fan of this, if you have established certain enemies beforehand it's just a sh*ty move to make them stronger later on. They also added new enemies and all of them are pretty cool tbh.
The map is a lot bigger and they added more variety in the bioms/ the map looks a lot more interesting in general. It is TOO big though and it takes AGES to get from one place to the next. Even worse than in the first game!
The story and quests are pretty cool and really creative, with a lot of puns and references to movies, etc.
Our biggest problem with this game is that it is way too hard. It is not challenging, it is just frustrating. We are now level ~70 and cannot beat level 60 dungeons. The space is often very limited, enemies spawn in ridiculous numbers and attack quickly and often. There is so much happening on the screen at once that you lose track of your character(s) and just die. We are constantly struggling to find dungeons or quests that we can do because we always feel like we need to be 10 levels above the dungeon or quest level to even have a chance.
That just kills all the fun honestly and I don't get why the decision was made to create a game like this.
Cat Quest was a lovely game, challenging but always fair. Cat Quest II just gives me the impression that the devs thought "how can we make a second game without making it fun?" "How hard can we make this game as to make player want to stop playing?". They looked at the "Mew game" difficulty of Cat Quest I (that is WAY TOO HARD AS WELL and no fun) that maybe 5% of te player completed. Why?!
Sadly cannot recommend the game, as much as I want to like it. It's just unnecessarily hard and annoying and after rage quitting it countless times I can't bring myself to write a positive review.
