About Chionophile

About this game

Chionophile is a very short experience about the mood of winter in the woods. It is a slow paced pure walking simulator; you only walk, slowly, in the wilderness away from civilization. A beautiful poem from Archibald Lampman accompanies your short journey; and the original music score that is composed by Pınar Karabaş.

The game has 2 chapters. While the first one is a little linear, the second one (which is more expansive) takes place in a large open area. There are paths for the player to follow to reduce confusion about where to go. But you are free to roam away from the path and discover.

PS: The core aspect of this game is the atmosphere. It is recommended for those who mostly seek to experience the mood.

Save progression: The game saves your progression at the beginning of each chapter.

After "Dear Ester" I wanted to get more into 'artsy' games. Budur's "Bottle" was the first of his games that I played - I didn't like it too much to be honest. "Chionophile" has a promissing beginning. In fact, when playing the first chapter I was set on writing a positive review. The game is linear in the beginning and leads you along a straight pth from which you cannot stray too much. The quotes are set at points where they cannot be missed and the music is amazing. Chapter 2 beginns with a random loading screen when you step over some sort of border (immersion ruined, thank you!) and is more of an open map. There are three flowers and poem parts to find as well as random other quotes. Finding the damn flowers was chore and so annoying I almost wanted to quit. You don't walk around, explore and enjoy the world around you, no, you are trying to run to where the last flower could be because ever path is blocked by some sort of stone. The second chapter is a more frustrating than enjoyable experience and sadly take up more time in this game. The very last scene was very beautiful and nice to look at/ experience but the majority of the game was just not fun :/
