About this game
Once a year, the Paintress wakes and paints upon her monolith. Paints her cursed number. And everyone of that age turns to smoke and fades away. Year by year, that number ticks down and more of us are erased. Tomorrow she’ll wake and paint “33.” And tomorrow we depart on our final mission - Destroy the Paintress, so she can never paint death again.

When I saw the trailer last year at the Xbox showcase I knew it looked special. Turn based JRPGs are my favorite thing in gaming and I’ve played every big one for the last thirty years, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, Shadow Hearts, Legend of Dragoon, Persona, Xenoblade, you name it. Expedition 33 felt like the game I’d been waiting for since Lost Odyssey, a beautiful high definition turn based experience with reactive elements that let you actively dodge, block, and counter during enemy turns just like the timed defenses in Paper Mario and Super Mario RPG. After seven months of hype and now actually playing it, I can say it might be the best turn based game I’ve ever experienced, and honestly it’s an unforgettable game. The story, voice acting, art, combat, and especially the music are all incredible.

Fun, edge-of-your-seat combat that keeps you on your toes, don't let the "turn-based" deceive you, you're not going to make your move and put your controller down waiting for the enemy. Beautiful map, they're using UE5 to the fullest. Great voice acting & mo-cap, memorable characters, moral dilemmas. Masterclass.
