I purchased this on a whim and the fact that VR games are hugely under-represented because it's still a niche market. So, if I can get my hands on anything VR related, I'll try it because VR is something that NEEDS to be experienced.
I purchased Conductor and played on the ViVe Cosmos, so the review is based on my experience with that setup. So many games in VR are more "parlor exhibits" and tech demos that anything else, it's rather disappointing, considering the potential VR has, take Half Life Alyx, Robo recall and Boneworks for example.
What Conductor does is it tries to give you more than a sideshow alley experience by adding a short story and very well done puzzles into the mix. To compare it to anything, I'd have to say it reminded me a lot of the section in the original Half Life, I think it was the " on a rail" chapter. Conductor comes from the same devs that created Star Shelter, Abode 1 and 2 ( Also great VR games!) Without spoilers, the game puts you in the shoes of a prison/hospital escapee, in a post apocalyptic world where you are on the run from Overcorp, some kind of pharmaceutical/big company.
Conductor is essentially that, you're the conductor of a steam engine on rails and the detail is rather interesting as it has you picking coal from the barrel, opening the fireplace to put coal into and adjusting speed, steam valves and even has a train whistle that you can pull...."toot toot"!!!
You stop every now and then to solve puzzles and be able to continue on your way, hence the "on a rails" reference I used from Half Life. It's a short game unfortunately, roughly 2-3 hours but I feel this isn't a typical parlor game that interests you for 30 minutes at a party, it's just enough to finish in a session or two and have that experience that's a cut above standard VR experiences.
I certainly recommend this game if you're after something engaging in VR.
