About Curse of the Dead Gods

About this game

Developed by Passtech Games and published by Focus Entertainment.

Curse of the Dead Gods is an action roguelike title in which you'll delve deep into a temple in search of untold riches, eternal power, and divine posers! This infinite labyrinth has all of that and more, but deep within its wall are dangerous traps, chasms to overcome, and deadly monsters that seek to kill you. Will you survive?

Delve into the Temple

The temple is riddled with traps and filled with monstrous enemies that seek to bring you down. Equipped with numerous weapons and a torch at hand, you'll need to ensure your survival at all costs if you are to benefit from these riches.

Survive the Traps

Traps throughout the temple are hidden from the naked eye, so you'll need to light fire braziers or set your enemies on fire amidst combat to reveal them and be able to plan your course of action! Will you be cautious or take a risk and suffer at the hands of the temple? Although these traps are perilous, use their own power to your advantage and slay your foes with them, allowing you to deal with hordes of enemies at a time!

Advance Into the Temple

Go into the depths of the temple and overcome the obstacles that await you; which room will you select next? Choose between numerous options, including gold, a weapon, an upgrade, a relic, attributes, healing, a challenge, and more, and map your path accordingly! Will you be greedy and go for the gold and powerups or play it safe and chart your map to include some healing?

Fight Against the Monsters

This action-roguelike seeks to bring you down with numerous monsters standing in your way! Use a mixture of strategy and fast reflexes to deal with enemies, and make a combination from a variety of armaments to customise your playstyle. Use quick weapons, such as daggers, sword, and sharp claws, to be swift on your feet and avoid enemy blows or use heavy-hitting weapons, including hammers and greatswords, to break at your enemies' defences! With a variety of range and melee attacks and attributes, including poison, you'll have numerous builds to take into the dungeon!

Challenge the Great Bosses

Test your build and skill as you battle gargantuan foes within the temple! With unique arenas, a plethora of abilities, and a massive life bar, you'll need to perform expertly to get past these foes and survive the journey!

Perish, and Rise Again

Fall to all of the hazards in the dungeon and rise again with attributes and bonuses that'll help you in future runs! Upgrade weapons and get bonuses with them to specialise and prepare for the next run that awaits you!

Anger the God of Death

Delve deep into the temple, but be wary of the consequences of your actions. Gain curses throughout your playthrough, forcing you to adapt your playstyle accordingly! Try to use the curse to your advantage throughout the run and ensure that you prepare for any impending perils.

Combat system is incredible. Parries, dodges, almost soulslike. Very fun to beat enemies up. However, it can get repetitive - which is the kiss of death for a roguelite such as this (though the combat can keep the game fresh and fun). The curse system isn’t very good, either, but I didn’t indulge it too much in order to really pick apart why it felt wrong.

Similar to hades but certainly not a clone. I'm just making the comparison to give you an idea if you'd like this game based on another one. It eases you into the game by partially opening the entire dungeon bit by bit. You can only finish floor 1 on your first attempt and you unlock the next one by finishing a run. This is a double edged sword because your first few runs end prematurely and part of the fun of roguelites/-likes is creating strong builds which fall short on these attempts. But it's fine as an extended tutorial in that sense. It has a bunch of unlocks for future runs (but you can only activate a few at a time so it's not unlimited potential for more power) which keeps you going and you get a daily run with specific modifiers allowing for more variety. You can save up to 3 of these which comes in handy because they are limited to 1 attempt and after that they're gone (until the rotation gives you the same one again). It also has a very neat light and dark mechanic where enemies become stronger in the dark so you have to make sure your surrounding are lit as your only other light source is a torch which can't be held with your sword out, but don't worry they made it very easy to switch back and forth between the weapons. The controls feel pretty good overall until you encounter the mirror mechanic but I'll let you figure that one out. Overall a 8.5/10. It lacks story but the gameplay is superb.

A good roguelike

A fairly good game with a killer art style that makes me think of Darkest Dungeon, a similar roguelike, BUT TOP DOWN AND WITH A MAYINCATEC AESTHETIC! Pity it got overshadowed by Hades. I only wish there was proper voice acting and a story.

Loved it took a bit to get use to the controls but that is probably just me. Would definitely recommend it especially if you like hades.

Eldritch Hades

Many people compare this game to one of the best rogue-like Hades, but aesthetic similarities to Darkest Dungeon are more applicable. Game is harder and more punishing than Hades. It's definitively more game for people who like to "git gud" and spend a lot of time getting to know ins and outs of a game.

A solid arcade/roguelite with some interesting synergies to mess around with. Great artstyle and atmosphere.

Similiar games as Hades but with darker tone and darkest twist.
