It's very beautiful, but one of the things I come to a roguelite for is a creative change of weapons each time I die. This really missed on that. It was sort of --- while beautiful, nothing really varied in loadouts between missions or upgrades. We don't play roguelites for beauty, unfortunately.

Fun 60 hours for full achievement. Little rough on the edges and enemies when in a long map and aero view.

Strong Binding of Isaac vibes, but with less skill synergy and more focus on active combat. ✔ a lot of active skills to choose from. Each weapon has its own combo, special and animations, making them feel distinctive ✔ mechanically rich - two spells, one melee one ranged weapon, dash (many different ones to choose from), shield (with block and parry) ✔ loadout - you always choose which items to start with ✔ good lifepool management - should be default but a lot of roguelikes treat life as the most important resource. Here it's important, but losing some of it is fine, you probably will get it back at a relatively low price ❔ melee passives (those that can be called that) are very weak, while ranged are far too powerful ✘ massive amount of perma progresion, that I think goes too far. I beat the game twice, including a higher difficulty, but there was easily more than half of stuff left to grind for. Some of it is almost necessary to beat the game on easiest difficulty, because they unlock special rooms on floors - without them you just fight enemies all the time with no time to breathe ✘ gets repetitive, especially killing the same bosses in the same order over and over again. This kind of pushes you to experiment with various weapons and skills though

This is a fun roguelike with lots of unlocks, fun but fair action, and a good atmosphere. The music is good, the between runs tasks are simple and quick with a good amount of characters to develop background for. If you like roguelikes, this definitely should be on your radar.

A very beautiful roguelite that offers a disappointing experience. The combat feels bland and lacking and the metaprogression between runs is excruciatingly slow and grindy. I can appreciate what the game is trying to do with the story but ultimately it is not engaging enough to keep coming back.

Mechanically sound, but lifeless world

It has all of the trappings of a good rogue lite with tight combat, good progression, and cool visual effects, but everything surrounding the mechanics is incredibly bland. The game lacks personality. The characters look like dolls waiting to have their faces drawn on. The locales are nicely designed, but lifeless. Even the music drolls on as you fight through groups of baddies. I think the devs did a good job of making a game but unfortunately failed at making an engaging world for the player to explore and exist in.
