Minor annoyances. Major fun

The first thing that stood out to me was the art style, how could it not, just look at it. This hand drawn comic book style oozes class. The gameplay is incredibly fluid. Movement is fast paced and is completely under your control, never once being an issue. Gunplay feels super punchy and heavy, easily some of the most satisfying gunplay I have experienced in a long time. If you love arcade of retro styled shooters, you’ll enjoy this immensely. As much as I enjoyed Forgive Me Father it does have some issues. I'll list just a few of the more noticeable ones. The melee weapons are almost unusable as you need near pixel perfect accuracy to hit anything. The female journalist has males hands. The XP you need to level is ridiculous past a certain point and finally the available ammo in the later acts is way too minimal, especially if you are trying to defeat all enemies on the harder difficulties. Forgive Me Father is a whole lot of fun but is sprinkled with minor annoyances. Fortunately there are still consistent patches being released. Fast paced action, excellent and unique art style, combined with Lovecraftian themes, all combine to create a one of a kind experience. The upgrade system is really engaging and rewarding, if a BIT basic. Any fans of Lovecraft or indie FPS games should defiinitely give Forgive Me Father a shot!

When I went into this, I did not expect the game that I got. It is a straight up boomer shooter with a very distinct style and some really cool ideas sprinkled into it. You are thrust into a story of visiting some family, either as a journalist (aggressive playstyle) or a priest (defensive playstyle) and find out that the city has been overrun. What follows, is a whole set of levels pulling you deeper into this weird world. The game leans heavily into the Cthulu mythos and always lets you in doubt about what you are experiencing. The art style and story telling keeps in all together as well. The gameplay was actually surprising as these boomer shooters usually feel old in that regard, but the hit feedback was exceptional. You pop off the heads of zombies, shoot the tanks of scientists off and use it against themselves, turning them into a blob of mindless goo walking towards you. The boss fights are hard and expect some thinking and dodging from you. The upgrade tree is great, since it gives you a lot of paths to go, that change your playstyle. Depending on your choice, you lock yourself out of another, which makes the replayability higher, just replay the game with the other character and choose the opposite upgrade. Since these points are also really limited, you may want to upgrade something else entirely as well. It all just feels rewarding. I ended up playing the game twice and thoroughly enjoying my experience with this game. Just beware, that the developers are still ironing out some bugs right now, that may impact the experience a bit, but nothing too bad.

One of the best modern shooter

What's not to love in this game? It has all the ingredients of a great shooter: - solid control - fun weapons - diverse enemies - As difficult as you want it to be - An endless mode and a story mode - Weapon progression with new effects and design Its only downside is that it could not transcend its existence as a video game. But it tries!

boomer shooter excellence with some genuinely creepy AF monster designs and sound effects. gunplay, level design, and visuals are also immaculate.

An extremely solid 4 hours start to this one's early access journey. Beyond its striking aesthetic , certainly still its most defining feature, it's a mighty strong shooter too. Aside from level design which leans a little on the linear, uninteresting side, the shooting is made interesting for its meaningful upgrades and abilities. The weapons are distinctive and satisfying. Enemy design is also naturally ace for its Lovecraftian nature. It's that level of choice - be it choosing between two characters (eventually), transforming a weapon into a unique variant, choosing your skills, etc - that makes this a compulsive play. The roadmap to dull release looks very promising, showing that they intend to more than double the level count and add more weapons, characters, enemies, and even 'surprise features.' Call me invested.

Fast paced, gore soaked, comic frenzy. The game is a lot of fun and the controls are very responsive. I'm looking forward to what comes with the full release of the game

This is a classic fps type that is kind of similar to fear in terms of aesthetics, where you get demon-like creature infested guns for upgrades. Gameplay wise, it plays like the older doom games with more simple weapons like shotguns, although you start out with a revolver, which is not the really strong magnum type that one shot kills, but a weaker type.
