Freedom Fighters

A real blast from the past! Freedom Fighters manages to compensate its clunky gunplay and a b-movie, 'red dawn-esque', quite open ended plot (IOI, a sequel would be really nice, please ;)), with a simple yet effective squad system and a good level design with interconnected sections. About the gunplay: almost every weapon ranges from low to bad accuracy, a thing that could be understandable only for few chapters in the beginning, since our protagonist is just a plumber, but as time passes he should become more acquainted with guns.. As for the good stuff, our squad can reach a max of 12 members, based on our 'charisma' which can be increased by rescuing injured civilians scattered throughout the maps and mostly by completing secondary objectives, which will be also crucial in how levels will play out; for example, taking out the bridges in one section will cut out reinforcements for the remaining part of the current level, making it easier to reach and destroy the helicopter station in another section and consequently clearing the skies leading to the final assault in the third section resulting more like a walk in the park and less like a carnage. AI is functional, most of the times both friends and foes will seek for cover during firefights, but especially enemies tend not to be the smartest of the bunch and frequently advance in open field before engaging our companions. Visually it is still enjoyable, thanks to a stylized and somewhat cartoony graphic style. ps: game comes with Jesper Kyd's awesome ost included! ;)

Truly a gem of the era, Freedom Fighters is made by IO interactive the makers of the "Hitman" games. A pretty interesting gameplay from a generic story, you fight your way through around 8-10 levels of post-amerika after the soviet invasion. Fans of military, strategy, or Red Dawn will get a kick out of this cult classic.

The game brings back old memories, but i wish they would add controller functions

I played this on the original Xbox. A brilliant blast from the past. Only negative is no controller support.

Amazing, so much nostalgia going through this again 😁🤙🏻. Worth if you’re like myself and love going back to these old games, which are in some ways loads better than the copy and paste trash what gets regurgitated out today.

From the intro to the ending, this game is an artwork of its time. While the graphics and gameplay are dated by today's standard, it still somewhat visually hold together with its semi-cartoonish art-style and its really atmospheric maps. But what makes this game special is its premise; an alternate-history set during the cold-war where the USSR advances an invasion right after the Cuban missile crisis. You play as a plumber who gets caught up with the rebels and the story goes on from there. What really stands out is the game's electronic-orchestral soundtrack by Jesper Kyd - which alone makes the game worth by buying.

It's a good game fun you should give it a go go go for while and then play some more or not. Lots of things to do and lots of things to find. Recommended game
