A fun, engaging game with a cool visual style and entertaining concept/story that compliments the gameplay experience instead of pulling you out of it.

Looks and plays like a bite-size game but it's actually a fully-equipped run and gun metroidvania. Love it!

I had great fun with Gato Robato. The concept of a cat running around in a mech suit wrecking up a lab gone amok is pretty good fun. Once the game gets rolling you have some interesting movement sets to play with. There are also several different non-suit sequences which serve to greatly vary the game play up. However, a few minor niggles wore at the experience: 1) The rocket launcher essentially makes your laser pistol obsolete (even after upgrades), which is frustrating. Rather than situational, the weapons end up being generational. 2) When you die and replay a boss fight, there is no way to skip all the dialogue, so you end up repeatedly hammering A. The boss fights aren't tremendously challenging, but I would have appreciated this. 3) The game is short (3-4hrs), but also takes a little while to get really good. I think if you'd gotten the boost jump at the start, and then gotten some third movement power later on - and maybe another weapon or two - it would have made the fun of becoming a cat-mech that much more immediate. Still, for a small indie title, it's a tight little game that delivers solidly on what it offers. Recommended.
