About Hunted: The Demon’s Forge

About this game

Powered by the Unreal 3 engine, Hunted: The Demon’s Forge™ is a fresh take on the classic fantasy game that delivers the intensity and action of a modern-day shooter. Taking control of either E’lara, a ranged weapon expert, or Caddoc, a master swordsman, you and your partner will descend into a dark and foreboding world for an unforgettable cooperative experience. As you travel deep within the world of Kala Moor, you will use a variety of deadly weapons, powerful spells, and cover tactics to face down wave after wave of vicious enemies. It will take the combined efforts of two great warriors to explore menacing dungeons, overgrown ruins, and downtrodden towns … and discover the secrets of the Demon’s Forge.

Key Features:

  • An Unreal Dark Fantasy: Powered by the Unreal 3 engine, the dark world of Hunted comes to life as a third-person fantasy game with the intensity and action of a modern-day shooter. Hunted boasts stunning visuals with breath-taking vistas and foreboding underground worlds.
  • Co-op at a Distance: Combine E’lara’s ranged attacks with Caddoc’s melee expertise to pull off gruesome co-op kill moves, perform special attacks, and heal one another from anywhere on the battlefield. The characters’ differing combat expertise allows a player’s strategy to vary from one play through to the next.
  • Descend into Dungeon Depths: Work with your co-op partner to discover hidden paths and solve the devious puzzles that block your way. Explore menacing dungeons, overgrown ruins, and terrorized towns to discover treasure and powerful upgrades.
  • Two Ways to Fight: Wade into the thick of the fight using deadly melee skills, or tactically use cover to dispatch hordes of creatures with bows and spells. Use powerful magic to boost your partner’s combat effectiveness and even the odds against increasingly formidable enemies.
  • Forge Your Own Levels: Create and share your own challenging dungeon designs with The Crucible, a powerful in-game editor that provides endless opportunities for exploration and battles for you and your friends.

I had originally played this game on my PS3, but enjoyed this on my Steam Deck even more..looked great and ran good . Played it during my lunch lunch break, something I didn't think would be possible back then.

This feels like a game from 2008 and yet it was released in the 2010s, it's not bad by any means if you want to play Gears of War as a skimpy elf, which is a largely untapped market otherwise. Some of the meta progression is interesting, and is the only thing that feels a bit more modern, like the way you have tiered unlocks based on gold found, and get different bonuses based on in game achievements. It does feel weird to have that system in a mostly linear game, same thing with the way loot works (basically rare loot has a temporary benefit such as a limited amount of magical arrows, rather than a permanent enchantment.)

Hunted: The Demon's Forge takes you on a fantasy adventure, emphasizing co-op gameplay and sword-and-sorcery action. While it has some appealing aspects, it's a mixed bag with both highlights and letdowns. Cooperative play is the game's standout feature. You can join forces with a friend or team up with an AI-controlled partner to explore the dark world of Kala Moor. This teamwork element adds depth as you solve puzzles, back each other up in fights, and tackle various challenges together. The camaraderie and banter between the two main characters, Caddoc and E'lara, inject personality into the journey. Combat is at the core, offering both melee and ranged options. It gets the job done but lacks the finesse of more refined action-adventure games. The repetitive nature of combat, especially against recurring enemy types, can wear thin. The level design occasionally falls short of providing the variety needed to keep things exciting. The game's narrative has potential, but it doesn't fully capitalize on it. While it presents a dark and intriguing storyline, the world-building and lore feel somewhat undercooked, leaving you craving more depth and context for the unfolding events. Visually, the game varies in quality. Some environments are beautifully crafted and set a captivating atmosphere, while others lack the polish and detail you'd expect from a modern title. Character animations and models are serviceable but don't leave a lasting impression. In sum, Hunted: The Demon's Forge offers enjoyable cooperative play and character dynamics, but it falls short due to repetitive combat and an underdeveloped narrative. It's a decent pick if you're seeking co-op adventures in a fantasy realm, but it might not fully satisfy those in search of a more refined and immersive action-adventure experience.

I've played a ton of this on my X360 - If you're into the co-op games of that era, you should have a good time.

Wow. what a great oldie. Nothing like pure notalgic fun, going around killing enemies in a chaotic battles. Although the saving method is a little bit frustrating, and the story is not that great. This game is just pure fun, and sometimes even indulges in self-humer. Just basic addictive fun.
