Iconoclasts

This game looks innocent and simple, but it's a trick. This easily one of the best metroidvanias I've ever played and it deserves way more recognition. The gameplay and movement is smooth. The progression is perfect as it never gets stale or boring. It's clear that this creator loves building bosses because there are so many boss battles and each one requires a lot more than just blasting away. Many of them require you to puzzle out just how to hit it or which weapon to use and it's always so satisfying when i finally figured it out, which usually only took 2 or 3 tries at most. The story is what really surprised me though. I thought this would just be a fun romp though another action platformer, but I literally teared up at one point. There is intrigue, mystery, and the brutality of blind belief. I never expected that the main reason I wouldn't be able to put this down would be because i just had to know what happened next. I really can't praise this game enough. The character design, level design, boss design, and every aspect of this is so beautiful and colorful without being distracting. This also worked flawlessly on my Steam Deck. There are even a couple of post game bosses that are difficult, but fun. if you can find them. If you've ever enjoyed a metroidvania and want one with smooth controls and a disturbing, but brilliant story then you cannot pass up Iconoclasts.

A very well done metroidvania. Nailed the 16-bit aesthetic. Although the story is a pretty basic rebellious hero setup, it is told well and with enough variety and humor to still be interesting. The setting is well fleshed out and unique. Upgrades are varied and are gained via interactions with characters and not just picked up from a pedestal in an unremarkable cave.

Undervalued game, play it it is a good adventure

Great metroidvania made by a solo developper. Lot of differents boss and gameplay mechanics. Story rich. More oriented on puzzles than fighting, totally recommended.

Iconoclasts has a lot of mixed reviews on steam so despite wanting this I went into it with incredibly low expectations. Maybe because of how low my expectations were but they were pleasantly surprised. This is a metroidvania with nice controls and a fine story.

I haven't played it yet but I really like the graphics, it's pretty original and the gameplay sounds very simplistic which i like!

This platformer/puzzle hybrid, is really great to chill to. Not many games can keep me playing until the end, without having a break of months in the middle, where this one is managing to keep me engaged. The gameplay is fun and varied enough, that I'm not getting bored with it. Its as hard or as easy as you want it to be, with some great options to tweak. I'm just playing on Normal and the level of difficulty is very chill.
