About Iratus: Lord of the Dead

About this game

In Iratus you find yourself fighting for the forces of darkness in the role of the titular necromancer—Iratus, recently freed from his millennia-long imprisonment.

You control an obedient army of the living dead, with skeletons, zombies, banshees and many other unliving warriors. Create your soldiers the only way a necromancer knows how: from the body parts of your slain enemies!

Expand and improve your underground lair. Strengthen your servants by researching secret rituals. Explore the twisted corridors and underground catacombs, and battle against lobotomized miners, greedy dwarves and corrupt mercenaries. Aid Iratus in his quest to recapture and eclipse his former power. Lead him to conquer the forces of good and unleash an eternal kingdom of death upon the world!

The sheer variety of tactical and strategic options makes Iratus a true treat for any ardent fans of the roguelike genre.

Key Features:

  • Play on the side of evil, embodied by the necromancer Iratus!
  • Expand and improve your underground lair.
  • 18 types of obedient servants: zombies, vampires, skeletons, mummies, banshees and many more!
  • Craft minions from the body parts of your conquered enemies.
  • Advanced combat system: to win you need to know both the strengths and weaknesses of your troops and enemies.
  • Iratus can kill his enemies not only by magic or claw but also by draining their sanity!
  • Each minion has six unique abilities for a total of nearly one-hundred abilities for you to command.
  • Four talent trees that alter the way you play: Alchemy, Magic, Ire and Destruction.
  • Roguelike elements: minions that die are gone for good and the game saves automatically, making each choice irreversible.
  • Detailed 2D graphics and a gloomy atmosphere of dark fantasy.
  • Various difficulty levels, satisfying every type of player from novice to hardcore.
  • Iratus himself is voiced by the voice-acting legend Stefan Weyte, famous for his performance as Caleb in the cult game series "Blood"!

"Unfrozen's Iratus: Lord of the Dead is one of the greatest tactical rogue-likes one can enjoy right now; one that surpasses the titles it pays homage to in almost every way....

Ragequit.gr

"A fresh take on a familiar formula, with enough quality and new ideas to make for a great experience. Highly recommended for roguelike and Darkest Dungeon fans."

Riot Pixels

82 / 100
"While Darkest Dungeon has more layers of complexity, turn-based combat in Iratus is just as compelling. You have to pay attention to negative effects, preempt potential...

Strong turn based gameplay, light strategy and some RNG

Iratus is Darkest Dungeon look alike but the gameplay is significantly different. It is a turn based strategy with RPG features and some narrated side stories. Iratus is Lord of the Dead that will use magic to help his minions fight humans. You can unlock stronger spells as he gains experience. You travel on a strategic map comparable to one in Slay the Spire. Choose your path where you encounter different foes, treasures and “energy” wells. The ending is a boss fight. There are 4 difficulty levels with progressively stronger enemies that are unique. The combat is turn based, we will set up positions for 4 of our warriors before encounter and they matter a great deal as they can only use certain actions from specific positions. The combat is the most fun part of the game. Each warrior has a certain initiative, how the turns go and they can build up vengeance meter with powerful actions too. We get to deal physical and "fear" damage. Physical is simple, enemies vanish and the same applies to your warriors who need to be replaced by greenhorns or upgraded with levelled up brains. Fear causes warriors to do uncontrollable actions, even hurting their allies and they can also flee from combat. Boss fights are really tough to beat and we may burn out a lot of our units on them until we figure out how to effectively fight them. I have beaten Iratus: Lord of the Dead, only on second difficulty but took me over 30 hours to do so. Game is not as challenging or grindy as Darkest Dungeon. I had a huge amount of reserves in the end though the last encounters were tricky. That is when I realized I need to save often.
