About IXION

About this game

IXION combines city building, survival elements, and exploration, into a thrilling space opera as you explore the stars. Propelled onwards through a perilous journey, you are the Administrator of the Tiqqun space station, charged with finding a new home for humanity.

Keeping the station sound and flying will require a deft hand and strategic thinking, as you are constantly pulled between maintaining hull integrity, bringing in new resources, and managing power consumption.

What choices will you make when confronted with impending disaster? What will you discover out there in the dark?

A population to manage, survivors to find, cryopods to recover... Maintain your crew's trust in the corporation that started this venture, or face failure and mutiny. Six sectors can be unlocked within the station, each able to house more population, support new jobs, and provide an opportunity to monitor the crew with the Data Listening System. Will you bring hope to the people?

Who said DOLOS was the only faction to escape the fate of the Earth? Brush up against other pockets of survivors, navigate on from the failures and wrecks of others… IXION will lead the player through gripping chapters of story, where new threats and opportunities are presented, all in aid of reaching the final destination, a new home.

DOLOS are famed for their innovative technology, their scientists, but the Tiqqun now finds itself cut off. Find what resources you can, research what you do not have. Find new ways to provide for your settlement, construct new buildings to create what’s needed. Modify the Tiqqun station, improve it, forge ahead in this odyssey.

Space is a dangerous place. Hull breaches, overloaded power supplies, electrical fires... It is up to you to manage these risks, deal with emergencies, create backup power solutions, and enable Extra-Vehicular Activity…

There are whole new stellar maps to explore. Send out probes to reveal what’s hidden, create mining and cargo ships to find resources, commission science expeditions to discover the secrets and threats you’ll find out there in space. Encounter other survivors and bring them into the fold of your mission, objective - survive.

This is an interesting game in the context of the industry it's been released. Building/colony games have had an uptick but combining that with a strong central narrative which takes itself seriously and tries to convey that along with mechanics which reinforce the seriousness of the situation and include an active failure state – that's fairly unique. But that's what Ixion does. At times it seems to stumble because of all the things it tries to do at once, with narrative pacing becoming sparser as you go. There are definite difficulty cliffs which come along in unexpected ways. Things can go sideways with little warning. But when things come together mechanically in the station alongside the plot and its revelations about the story you are actively engaged in, it's extremely good. In some ways it reminds me of the arc of the original Homeworld without quite as much ambition. Is this a game you should own? I believe so. It combines story with challenging resource management and city building mechanics in a way few other games do.

Punishing space themed city builder with resource management. Reminiscient of Frost Punk.

Frostpunk in space.

This is a great game. Like the title says if you like Frostpunk, you'll really like Ixion. It's not an easy game and you'll need to master some key strategies. You will fail. ALOT. Over time though you'll figure out your missteps and be able to make more progress. I'm like 20 hours in and loving it, will update the review once I've got like 100 hours in and then finally once I've finished the game.

It's pretty neat and a lot of fun for 30+ hours. It's not yet perfectly balanced, some mechanics are weird, but since it's not a PVP game you can just accept that as the way the world works here. The worst part about the game is the missing replayability. The maps and the story always stays the same, only events are randomized.

Extreamly challenging and fun?

Yes, there is a couple of extreamly challanging mechanics within IXION that do require some additional balancing, but GOD DAMM, it's got a good story and incredible game play. I myself have noticed when you're engrossed in completing a task in IXION, REAL LIFE time just faded away.

It's a good space exploration and management game I heard before I got it some people were saying it was too difficult. If you have played any other management games you won't have any problem it's a lot easier than first time playing banished or rimworld for example. The game is 20 - 25 hours long if you want to explore all the planets and max everything out just rushing for completion probably about 15 hours. The length of the game is actually about perfect I finished after 22 hours and the gameplay had started to get stale around that point. The gameplay itself is mainly focused on production and population growth but there is a max you can grow to and after there's nothing left to improve the game gets a bit dull. Fortunately when you reach that point the game will start to give you some outside threats to keep you busy until the end of the game. Overall I recommend this game if you have the disposable income to buy a game to play for 20 hours and then move on if you don't want to spend that much that's fair and feel free to give this game a miss, if you are interested then it's not as good of a game as dredge but it's still probably worth your time especially if you're particularly interested in colony management games with a campaign focus like frostpunk.

Ixion is a very good and fun game. At this moment in time it is not worth buying at its full price of £30 however I got it for £17 and ixion is well worth that price. The game is a great contester to other sci fi and city builder type games and is getting better with every update coming its way. I would recommend this game to anyone who has patience as when you start it is quite hard but after a while it becomes amazing. Great game would recommend!!!
