12th century, England: In a time of great poverty and war, a small town begins the construction of a cathedral to claim wealth and security for its people. In their struggle to survive, lives and destinies intertwine. Philip the monk becomes prior of the small abbey of Kingsbridge. At the same time, a boy called Jack is raised in the woods by his outlawed mother. His apprenticeship as a stonemason paves his way to become a gifted master builder. It comes as no surprise that games are probably one of the best mediums to deliver a message. The effective reason being the flexibility that games offer, and one prime example is undoubtedly Ken Follett’s Pillars of the Earth, the original books now offered in a point and click adventure one sure to make you engrossed in one of the best 19th-century fiction novels to ever come out.
About The Game
Ken Follett's The Pillars of the Earth is a point-and-click adventure video game developed and published by Daedelic Entertainment who are known for making such games. It is based on Ken Follet’s award-winning 1989 novel of the same name, which was adapted as a videogame across 21 playable chapters. Book 1 of the game was released on 16 August 2017, Book 2 on 13 December 2017, and Book 3 on 29 March 2018.
Gameplay
The gameplay is your pretty standard point-and-click stuff. You control your character to just follow through with whatever subsequent quest that is displayed over the screen. There are mini-games, you can also interact with the fellow NPCs, it's designed in such a way that the player can fully experience the story without fretting about the game controls or other “standard” gaming issues, perfect for people who play games to experience a well-written story over crazy game mechanics. The art is well done, it's like a picture book but alive, really mesmerizing the same can be said about the soundtracks simply put they are wonderful and soothing to anyone who hears them. Talking about the story, this is where it truly shines and solidifies its place as one of the best games out there. The story is phenomenal, unlike the books, different endings are depending upon your action, which is great, the characters, the entire setting is truly mind-blowing. The characters grow on you, the game questions one’s conscience, spirituality, right and wrong, and ultimately what makes us human after all. I wouldn’t dare to spoil the story, it is something everyone should enjoy firsthand, I suggest going back and reading the original books after completing the game, gives you a new look at the whole thing.
PROS

Simple gameplay, targeted towards really casual video game players.

Great art and soothing OSTs

One of the best story-based games out there

CONS

Overpriced, would suggest to get it at sale...

Good point and click adventure game. One of Daedalic's best point and click adventure games. High production values than most of their other games. I look forward to playing it.

If you like point and click style games with a plot give this game a try. There isn't much gameplay but there are branching paths.

The game's great, the story flows as you open the chapters. The visual makes you dwell into the game. Dang!

A fantastic example of a modern point and click adventure game. Most multi-million dollar productions from the big developers don't have writing nearly as good as this.
