As someone who is into tower defense games, it was inevitable that I would come across the Kingdom Rush series.
If you do not know the genre yet, there is really no much better place than the Kingdom Rush series to start with, including this title.
Though there is a mild "Plot" behind all of these games, at the heart of all games an ongoing unlocking of a wide array of avatars/heroes that help you around the battlefield, plus using your gained "Experience" - here, Stars that increase the better you do on a level, to reap passive bonuses that let you cast temporary units onto the field and rain down global damage spells more often.
The rest is basically: Chosing a tower combination to bring with you and deploy onto the level, chosing the right upgrade paths and amounts for the towers, and then trying to make sure enemy units do not make it past the "finish line" / your defenses.
Overall good fun, as it ends up being a very pretty puzzle-actiony experience that you can play both a bit more passive and a bit more active, depending on the difficulty (more difficult usually means needing to intervene a bit more initially with your "live" avatar unit).
The core series overall to me is fairly flawless, so I cannot give this one less than five stars, either. If you are into the tower defense genre at all, or want to check it out, this is as good a "toe-dip" as you will find for it. :)

Even if it has a lack of difficulty, level design is as original as always. Furthermore, the fact the tower system has changed has allowed the game to innovate with the defenses you can create . Also, the new enemies have really interesting mechanics, so it's worth giving this game a shot.
In addition to all of that, even if it's the last game released by Ironhide Game Studio, this game continues with the lore just after the end of the original Kingdom Rush.
Also, heroes are also really cool!
