Meet Nika, a brilliant girl that doesn’t fit into the world she lives in. Perhaps it’s the chocolate shake with a shot of cognac she carries in her backpack which makes her different. Or maybe it’s the fact that at 7 years old her favourite things are the transfer of energy, magnetic fields and electrical engineering. But anyway... It doesn't matter if her parents don't listen to her. It doesn't matter if her teacher ignores her. It doesn't matter if her classmates are dorks. Nothing matters anymore because she has a plan to solve everything. A really… odd plan.

I, Nika Allen, 7 years old, am sick to death of this world. My parents don't care about me. My brother never takes any notice of me. At school, I never get taught anything useful. There are loads of things that shouldn't exist. It's for these reasons that I've decided to destroy everything that isn't cool. With MechaNika I will destroy and eliminate the things and the people that I don't like. I'll start at home. Then school. This city. The entire world. I'll get rid of everything boring and pointless, and this world will be better for it.
If it's not cool, it will disappear. If you're not cool, hide. MechaNika is here.

This game's store page says it won’t run on macOS Catalina or newer, but it runs perfectly on my M2 Mac. I’ve had it in my library for a while and only just got around to playing it, which is the only reason I got to test this out. =)
You play as Nika, a 7-year-old alcoholic genius with a plan to build a giant death machine and wipe out everything she finds stupid or not cool in the world. The visuals are bright and cartoonish, but the tone is dark, sarcastic, and often just plain uncomfortable lol.
There were the funny laugh-out-loud moments, sure. But I didn’t particularly enjoy the 40-year-old virgin nerd propositioning our 7-year-old protagonist (even if she is an alcho), or the prostitutes wagging or flashing their bits every time she walks by. That kind of "adult humour" just doesn't work for me. It felt a little too weird for me, due to our protagonist being a child. Like, they honestly could have left those two things out and it'd have been grand.
Would I play other games in the series? Probably not. It just didn’t fully gel with my sense of humour. But I can acknowledge that the game is well made and the art is great. It’s just not for everyone, and certainly not for kids, despite the childish, hand-drawn look. I played to the end because I genuinely wanted to see how this whole destruction thing was going to go for her. Haha!
If you’re into weird, dark-ish stories and don't mind edgy humour that pushes the line, you might enjoy it. I didn’t hate it, I did find some aspects funny, but I also wouldn't recommend it without flagging the type of content that might be off-putting for some.
