About METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

About this game

Snakey wakey

Snake’s back and he’s out for revenge in the action-adventure METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN. With this Steam key, players will reprise the role of Snake in a first-rate gaming experience with tactical freedom to carry out open-world missions in 1980s Afghanistan.

BIGGER, BETTER, LONGER
Set nine years after the events of METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES and the fall of Mother Base, Snake (Big Boss) awakes during The Cold War, with nuclear weapons still proving to be a global threat. Seeking revenge, Snake must create his own private army – the Diamond Dogs - and hunt down the shadow group known as XOF, commanded by Skull Face.

UNIQUE METAL GEAR GAME
Experience an epic open-world design, photorealistic visual fidelity and feature-rich game design, as well as rich cinematic storytelling, heavy themes, and immersive tactical gameplay. Explore the Afghan desert by jeep or horseback, and call in airstrikes and helicopter support to aid you in challenging conflicts.
Transport enemies and random animals in hilarious, spy-like fashion with the Fulton surface-to-air recovery system. As seen in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, players will be able to use base-building mechanics to develop weapons and items for their home base – as well as recruiting enemy soldiers and prisoners.

GEAR UP FOR ONLINE
Jump into the brand new Metal Gear Online to take on fellow players and AI in armed combat, or try your hand at Forward Operating Bases – an online base-building mode where players can attack and defend their bases against other players, with the aim of generating resources and income linked back to the single-player campaign.

YOUR OFFICIAL METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN STEAM KEY GIVES YOU:

  • Open-world game design for ultimate mission freedom
  • Multiplayer modes supporting single-player progress and PvP action
  • Photorealistic graphics, thoughtful game design and true new-generation game production quality via the FOX Engine

Amazing game, good weapon mechanics and a interesting if not incredibly complex story. Seriously I watched a two hour video on the history of the metal gear franchise and still barely understand what's going on. Stealth is wonderful though, especially the upgrade system and all the equipment you can unlock.

METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN Review

Staff Review
MGSV: THE PHANTOM PAIN sticks out as a game-changer for Konami's hugely successful franchise due to its open-world freedom towards missions, and a ridiculous amount of entertaining features. There aren't many games out there that will let you attach a cow to floating device, if that doesn't make you want to play it, we're not sure what will! Slick, stylish and with some awesome voice acting from Kiefer Sutherland (24) as Snake, this is quite possibly the best MGS game to date.

So far the game has been pretty enjoyable. I haven't played a MGS game since MGS3, and I've been having a good time with it so far!

I've played MGS5, Kojima's flawed opus, on PS4 once through, back at release. My impressions then remain the same now: this is a phenomenal open-ended stealth sandbox, more mechanically flexible and robust than its contemporaries like Far Cry or Ghost Recon, with a fascinating story, poorly told. MGS5 feels phenomenal to play on gamepad or on keyboard and mouse, allowing you so many degrees of freedom both in tackling its various mission objectives, but also in basic player character movement. Snake can crouch, go prone, roll, dive, leap, aim in any direction from any stance, call in support, hang off the side of his horse to stealthily pass enemies, etc. It makes for a supremely deep stealth sandbox. But, the story is lacking. Quite literally, the game lacks a final chapter. It's a poetic coincidence, given the game is so much about mourning loss and the ghost of what was once there. But, this game, more than any in the saga, requires digging through reams of text, audiologs, and careful study of the (far less frequent and more brief) cutscenes to really put all the pieces together. I found this incredibly frustrating at launch, but I think that many of the ideas rattling around in Kojima's head - the maleability of language, the flexibility of identity, and the ever-present rot of the American imperialist project - work stupendously. It just feels like you have to root around in the guts of the game to really extract all that Kojima is saying. He was already leaning toward the more passive storytelling of the in-game podcast formula in MGS4, but, here, it is taken to its extreme. Most of the game's story is told through audiologs that can be played almost anytime anywhere. But, this can lead to awkward moments where the dulling of gameworld sound leads to an otherwise avoidable alert or the possibility of missing a key piece of mission info revealed by a guard. On PC, this game looks and runs phenomenally. But you will have to do some tweaking to get it working at above its 60 fps cap out of the box, annoyingly. Further, if you have an ultrawide display, getting this running in 21:9 or more is basically a non-starter. If you know of a workaround, lmk, b/c I couldn't find one. Overall, great game, poor - but acceptable - PC port.

I picked this game up because I completed it on PS4 forever ago and wanted to start out fresh due to the server info. I spend hours in this game and always find a new challenge to the game. If you’re a fan of open world this is the game for you. While it’s a weird tie-in to the story of Big Boss and the canon of the MGS series it’s still a great game!
