About MONSTER HUNTER: WORLD

About this game

It’s time to take control of a hunter and embark on a journey to the new world, as you will face behemoths sprawling open-area world for you to explore. Journey into the world alone or with friends in a four-player co-op to explore the diverse flora and fauna of this strange new land to collect resources and build up your Hunter Rank! Experience this multi-award-winning phenomenal entry to the Monster Hunter franchise published by Capcom.

A Strange New World

Adventure into an unknown world as you set forth on an adventure unlike ever before. The New World is an unexplored land for all hunters, and it is up to you — as a member of the Fifth Fleet — to provide support to the Research Commission. Face Zorah Magdaros, an Elder Dragon the size of a mountain, and help the Expedition study these powerful beasts and why they migrate to the New World every ten years when the Elder Crossing comes around.

Fight Monsters Old and New Alike

Fight against monsters varying in sizes and species, as you’ll face small creatures, such as the pack-minded Jagras, iconic monsters from the Monster Hunter franchise, such as the Rathalos, and work your way up to the gargantuan Elder Dragons, such as Behemoth. Challenges abound, both big and small, for hunters of all kinds.

Hunt Alone or Together

Hunters needn’t fight these creatures alone, as you’ll be able to embark on these journeys with up to three other friends. How to play co-op? It’s as simple as going to the mission board, choosing a Hunter Quest, and then having your friends accept the same one! Fight creatures together, build up your Hunter Rank, and work your way up to the toughest of challenges that Monster Hunter: World has in store for you.

Your Hunter, Your Loadout

With a vast selection of weapons and armour for you to equip, the possibilities are endless. Select one of 14 weapons — Long Sword, Great Sword, Dual Blades, Sword and Shield, Switch Axe, Charge Blade, Hammer, Hunting Horn, Lance, Gunlance, Insect Glaive, Bow, Light Bowgun, and Heavy Bowgun — to venture into battle and slay some of the gigantic monsters of the New World.

Craft, Fight, Upgrade, Repeat

Monster Hunter’s iconic gameplay featuring hunting for parts in order to craft and upgrade your gear is present and better than ever with Monster Hunter World! Start with beginner gear provided by the Fifth Fleet and use the resources present in the New World to create stronger and better ones to face the threats that await you. Craft items from monster parts, venture into more battles, upgrade the gear to fight even stronger foes, and then fight even stronger foes! An addictive gameplay loop.

Use Hunter’s Special Tools

Take advantage of numerous specialised tools that are fit for the job. Use traps and other contraptions to trap and snare your foes, use the Scoutflies to help you track monsters, sling yourself to safety from perilous attacks, and even take your faithful Palico into battle to assist you in battling enemies! The full Hunter loadout.

If you're looking for a button-mashing game, this isn't it: the combat is slow-paced and every action you take must be very intentional. This game is made for people who want to be rewarded for getting mechanically better at it. The greatest improvement isn't when you get stronger gear; it's when you become more familiar the monsters' movesets and your own weapon's moveset.

Staff Review
There's a reason why Monster Hunter: World has been Capcom's best-selling game to date when it launched on console earlier this year, and PC gamers can now see what all the fuss is about. From huge battles with terrifying monsters to exploring and crafting items from materials found in each of the amazing ecosystems, you will easily get 100 hours plus out of this game, if not more! We'll go as far as saying that this will be one of the best games you will play in 2018, 2019 and beyond!

Monster Hunter World is a fantastic entry point to a beloved franchise. Masterpiece!

Finally a Monster Hunter on PC (That is more broadly available at least)! Fantastic gameplay with loads of variation and content. After hundred hours there's still plenty of game to discover and new challenges appear often. A well made "reboot" of sorts that helps new players experience the franchise for the first time by slowly increasing the difficulty and cutting down on the "time to kill". Great game to just start and do a couple of quests or to hunt away the night. Simply put, a must have. It's fantastic in both solo and coop (2-4 players)

Slow start, a little overwhelming at first. But once you get the grip on things it's hard to put down! Both solo and multiplayer are fun.

Here’s my 3-hour review: Gameplay is not intuitive, it’s as clumsy to play as the combat is with the 8-foot metal axe. Players are forced to watch unskippable story cut scenes, but are thrown in the deep end in terms of how combat, crafting and resources work. It’s a multiplayer game, but tries as hard as possible not to be. Incredibly clunky setting up multiplayer games, but maybe this works better on console versions. Would not recommend the game if you’re looking at party playing. On the other hand, it looks pretty, I like the cats and I’ll keep at it for a few hours more

great breadth, but hampered by stiff controls, lack of effective tutorials. no pause/quit. nope :(

playtime as of writing: 8.5 hrs. i was using kb+m. i played solo. MH:W is a good game for the right person. i am not that person. exploration is super cool. i really enjoy the environments and the creatures. hunting is conceptually interesting, and the larger beasts seemed to be truly challenging. i like that as you fight, you can break bits off the monsters for their parts, and i love the concept of harvesting monster bits to build new gear. the game, however, is very good at not telling you what to do. sure, there are 20-odd different weapons each with their own combat style, but melee combat is weird because you can't change direciton mid-combo. like, you can't even lean your combo to the left; you have to completely stop pressing inputs until the animation ends, then you can re-orient, then you can start mashing again. i only used one weapon for ranged combat -- the bug-spear thing, but i kept getting mixed up between bug-shooty mode, arm-crossbow-shooty mode, and idk what exacltly -- spear-shooty mode? i really have no idea and the game left me completely in the dark as to how exactly the weapon functioned. there are probably 50 types of ammo for your wrist-shooter thing (which is never mentioned during the lengthy, hand-holdy tutorials). each ammo is good for a specific situation or creature, and that provides a lot of flexibility in how you approach situations. apparently you can set up traps to damage or capture monsters, too, although i didn't make it far enough to actually learn how to use the "trap kit" item that i bought. the complexity in the number of items, while cool, was for me disengaging as i was not really hooked by the game. it felt like a chore to manage my meager inventory space with all the shinies i was seeing (most ammo and crafting ingredients are found in the world). the pacing of the game sucks. it's just bad. everything is instanced from a hub/town area. from there you fly off to whatever zone to complete the mission. once you've completed the mission objective, you are taken back to the hub 30-60 seconds later. i don't think there's a way to cancel that. the thing that really bothered me the most is that you cannot pause the game outside of the hub/town without a third party tool. in multiplayer, this makes sense since you've got other clients running the game. but when i'm the only player, i should be able to pause. you're actually not even allowed to quit the game during a mission, which is absolutely stupid. also,...
