About Murderous Muses

About this game

WHO KILLED MORDECHAI GREY?

It’s been a year since the unsolved murder of Mordechai Grey. In tribute, Gallery Argenta is about to exhibit six of the artist’s most famous portraits and prime suspects - the ‘Murderous Muses’.

Play as the gallery’s night watch and explore its secrets over three days, whilst paintings spring to life at night, fuelled by the mysterious and scarce ‘Eyes of Mordechai’.

See-through Mordechai’s eyes to question suspects, unlock police interviews, and finally deduce who’s the murderous muse…

  • Solve a murder mystery that re-rolls every time you play
  • A rich new story setting, Mirlhaven island
  • Explore a procedurally-generated gallery and share seeds with friends

  • Final scorecards and run times for bragging rights
  • A spine-tingling new murder mystery from the creators and writers of The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker, The Shapeshifting Detective and Dark Nights with Poe and Munro.

This feels like a spiritual successor to The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker, but instead of asking questions, you move paintings in a gallery, where each plaque triggers a corresponding video sequence. Most of them are really short, though, and you're supposed to trigger three specific ones for each character to get a police interview for the day. And that is made more difficult by the fact that each plaque flips over after using it once, revealing a different word. So it's a lot of busywork for something that worked much better in The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker, and a single playthrough lasts like 3 or 4 hours even though there's more than enough footage to cover multiple playthroughs. And none of the character stories are as interesting as the paranormal history of the island the story takes place on.
