Omerta City of Gangsters is an interesting game. It is part tactical combat, like an XCOM, and part business management simulator. There is enough here to satisfy players who enjoy strategy and immersive turn-based combat. The game includes a campaign, with a decent amount of story missions to keep you busy. The game references some real life gangsters and gangs from the 1920s era. Speaking of gangs, you can customize your crew's weapons, their stats and such. Omerta City of Gangsters was developed by the legendary developer FIRAXIS, famous for the X-COM and Tropico series, and more. This game was developed during the same time frame when FIRAXIS was developing the very first X-COM game. So, you can expect the tactical combat to feel a little bit dated and simplistic, but it is still fun. You can unlock new characters and new abilities as you level up, although I did have one major issue with the game's tactical combat. The amount of fighting you do, does not grant you XP to level up, not really. You only really level up when you hit certain points in the story, which I found to be a negative. However, the business management simulation aspect of this game fares much better. Remember, FIRAXIS is also responsible for the Tropico series. In conclusion, I can recommend this game to people who love strategy and management games.

8.5 Hours Played - Was fun for a while but it eventually got boring.

The game was not a ton of fun. It had an interesting overworld where you build your criminal empire, balancing money with supplies that your buildings produce. It was fun to work with all the different types of buildings but every time you move on to another location you repeat the process over again, with pretty much the exact same tactics. In between empire building you send gangsters on combat missions which are kinda fun, but the combat is clunky and feels pretty slow. The world is highly stylized with retro art and okay characters which is cool but the game mechanics are repetitive. I couldn't finish the main campaign because I got bored with it. I don't think I'll ever reinstall it.

I used to play this game a lot when it initially released. It was a fun and unique experience and a nice time killer. For todays standards the game of course isn't amazing any longer, but still enjoyable if you like the Gangster setting.
