If you've had the pleasure of playing the original Resident Evil games - or the likes of Dino Crisis or Republique - then you'll feel right at home with this absolute classic. Onimusha: Warlords / 鬼武者 brings back the hack and slash action-adventure of the late 90s/early 00s and looks so much better now that it has been lovingly remastered with HD enhancements and widescreen support. This is a samurai sensation that is worth checking out, even if it's the second time around!

I went into this game unsure if I would like it and was VERY pleasantly surprised! This game is the definition of perfect pacing. There is a steady stream of genuinely interesting content for the entirety of the 4-5 hour campaign and I ended up beating the entire thing in one sitting. It's such a breath of fresh air to play a game with no unnecessary padding or frustrating difficulty spikes. The only criticism I can give is the combat is rather basic, but that's fine because it's not really the point of the game. I would happily recommend this game to pretty much anyone!

The remaster did a great job of making the game look way better than it had any right too. The controls were a little better than I remember. Felt less tanky. The voice acting is bad, but it is kind of expected. This game originally came out in 2001, so they did it justice. It has a lot of replay value. I ran into no technical issues and it ran fine. The game doesn’t explain much to you and definitely doesn’t hold your hand. The game has a lot of replay value kind of in the vein of Resident Evil. You can unlock additional costumes, modes, and a new difficulty if you get a decent grade at the end of your playthrough.

The Onimusha games (yes, GAMES, as in more than ONE) are brilliant. However, over the years, Capcom allowed the IP to stagnate. As a result, this remaster didn't sell too well and apparently that's all Capcom needed to cancel 2 & 3. The last mainline Onimusha game, Dawn of Dreams, was released in 2006! No presence for well over a decade. Honestly, what did they expect? So, yeah, this is cool and all, but there are 3 other games that deserve the same treatment, and they will probably never get it. If you're a fan and you want to see remasters of all the games, buy this. It's the only thing you can do at this point. Onimusha deserves the same treatment as DMC and RE, in my opinion, even if the sales figures don't match up.
