About Planet Coaster

About this game

Developed and published by Frontier Developments.

In Planet Coaster, you'll be able to create the theme park of your dreams! Bring fun and joy to millions of NPC children, and become the next big hit.

Easy Building

In order to make a great park, the game offers an intuitive building system! Lay paths, build the scenery, customise your rides, and make a unique park through a piece-by-piece construction system! Did we mention it contains over a thousand building components?

More Than a Park

You can't just have coasters and expect everyone to love it! You've got to make it beautiful, too! Raise mountains, create lakes, dig up caverns, or even build islands in the sky! The sky is your imagination... and by that, we mean you're only limited by your own creativity!

Management Made Fun

Control every aspect of the park — from the guests' experience to the themes you present! Just remember, every person at your park is an individual, and they'll think, feel, and explore everything at their pace and interest.

Up To The Challenge?

Whether you play the campaign to truly test your skills or jump into the sandbox and build for fun, you'll find something for everyone!

Steam Workshop

If you prefer to make the mark than invent or construct buildings, that's fine too! Planet Coaster has a Steam Workshop where the community can share their items with one another, making it that much easier to make the best park! You can even download entire parks from others, so you never have to start from zero.

Steam Deck

Planet Coaster is also playable on the Steam Deck, meaning you can take your park with you everywhere you go!

Great game, but has no tutorial so you have to learn everything on the road. Endless hours and fun.

Great game with some minor hiccups

Planet Coaster has been a lot of fun and I have had very few complaints. My biggest complaint is the way the camera works. I lose the sense of where I am and it can be difficult to control especially when you zoom in. My second complaint is that learning to use the paths is... Tedious. It can be difficult to really get the path that you picture in your head and I can't even fully explain why. I think I might just need practice though. Overall though I've been enjoying the game. I've been a rollercoaster tycoon fan since I was a kid, and this is just a more indepth version of that.

Yes, there is a new RCT game, and they have rereleased stuff to try and cash in on the classic games (without adding any content or achievements I might add... lazy greedy devs). However, THIS is the game you want, if you're trying to scratch that theme park itch. It's incredibly well done. There's also a lot more creativity to throw into the mix, with how you can set up decorations. Lots of great ways to create modular buildings and stuff to make your park entirely unique.

The game in short, is a very fantastic sandbox but is very hard to enjoy if you have never delved into management games or learned a bit about world building in software. I am definitely new to both so this game is still challenging to me as I was expecting more of a simulator and not a game engine tool. I still have fun and its not as technical as a full on software engine but it definitely requires a lot of knowledge. I wish there was a tutorial that could at least teach you the basics for each kind of building/management, as there are many factors to consider than just is the ride exhilarating. All the DLCs seem cool but I'm going to wait to have a better grip on my skills before purchasing them. Planet Coaster appealed to me at first because I had always wanted to ride roller coasters and most of my family didn't like them. I started becoming invested in VR news but saw how pricey it was, and recently found out about PlanCo. This fills my void while I wait to get a VR headset and then I could combine them with some good headphones and a fan for an amazing at-home experience. For now I stick to YouTube and this game keeping me fulfilled =) This game is a unique sandbox because it allows many people who cannot afford to go to theme parks to realize their dreams online, and with community submitted content it makes so many more experiences that wouldn't be available anywhere else. The several atmospheres, musical sceneries, special FX, and colorful details make this game stand out from any other themed party game. It is a Low 4/5, losing points because it is very difficult for the casual audience to understand quickly.

Got this one on sale, pretty good/fun. Fun challenge trying to get your dummy visitors to not get clogged up at choke points, and get them to visit your awesome but maybe a little difficult to get to rides.

Not Rollercoast Tycoon

This is a great fun game, however there can be a bit too much in it. If you enjoy micro-managing your games in detail this can be for you. Sometimes i'm into that, but mostly i'm not. However if you just want to make a simple rollercoaster then you still can! You also can create not just the track, but every colour, angle, shapes, pretty much anything you can imagine. Sometimes this is necessary, but you can just take it easy which I like.
