About Prey

About this game

Are you Predator or Prey?

Story

In Prey, you awaken aboard Talos I, a space station orbiting the moon in the year 2032. You are the key subject of an experiment meant to alter humanity forever – but things have gone terribly wrong. The space station has been overrun by hostile aliens and you are now being hunted. As you dig into the dark secrets of Talos I and your own past, you must survive using the tools found on the station -- your wits, weapons, and mind-bending abilities. The fate of the Talos I and everyone aboard is in your hands.

YOUR OFFICIAL PREY STEAM KEY GIVES YOU:

  • A Sci-fi Thriller
Nothing is as it seems aboard Talos I. As Morgan Yu, set out to unravel the clues you've left behind for yourself, and discover the truth about your past. What role will you play in TranStar’s plans, and the mysterious threat ravaging the station?

  • A Singular Setting
Orbiting the Moon, the Talos I space station symbolizes the height of private space enterprise. Explore a lavish craft designed to reflect the corporate luxury of the 1960s, and navigate interconnected, non-linear pathways built to hide countless secrets.

  • An Unimaginable Threat
The shadowy extraterrestrial presence infesting Talos I is a living ecology bent on annihilating its prey. It’s up to you, one of the last remaining survivors aboard the station, to end the deadly attack of these haunting predators.

  • A Challenge
Customize your gameplay options and difficulty settings for an even more tailored adventure. You can make the experience more challenging (or easier) by changing a myriad of parameters related to stealth, movement and combat.

  • Your Own Way to Play
Gain alien abilities to develop a distinct combination of powers and upgrade your unique skills. Craft increasingly useful items with the blueprints, gadgets and tools on board the station to overcome dangerous obstacles in your way. Survive unprecedented threats with your wits and ability to improvise.

Critic Reviews

81
"With a setting that tells a story better than any human voice, Prey's combat and quests will suck you even deeper into its world."
8 / 10
"Prey's space station is fantastically explorable and its shape-shifting enemies maintain tension when combat doesn't."

"Though it lives a little too comfortably in the shadows of its influences, Prey is a quality horror-action game"

Good so far. Nice graphics for a game that came out a while ago. And you can't beat the price here at Fanatical. Ready to play it on a long plane trip later this year.

Great horror, good gameplay, insane creepy vibes and a story that could be better developed.

A horror masterpiece. This game is intense, it makes you think twice about your every move after being attacked by the first mimic you encounter. There's a chance that one mimic spawns in every room so any chair could attack you outta nowhere. A good story, great side-quests and very satisfying weaponry with a less than optimal crafting system makes Prey an awesome experience without many downsides. The enemy variety could be better and some enemies can be frustrating at times but nothing that should stop your enjoyment. You will not go wrong with this game if you miss BioShock vibes. It's just amazing.

Oof. This had such potential. The setting, lore, atmosphere, character progression... it's all perfectly in line with a bioshock-like experience. That is, until you realize that when you leave an area, enemies respawn. I was 20 hours into the game, carefully clearing out areas, and specced into combat and utility. When I transitioned back into an old area, the very tough enemies had respawned. If ammo was unlimited, or infinitely craftable, this would be fine - but ammo is limited. Crafting materials are limited. You will run out of ammo, then be soft locked if you didn't spec into the Stealth tree. A game that gives you a tech tree needs to be playable regardless of your decisions. For me, I would have had to start from the beginning and spec into Stealth from level 1 in order to finish the game properly. This is unacceptable game design. It's a real shame, because I was so invested up until I realized that I was soft-locking myself.
