An excellent combination of narrative, boss battles, and randomization. Build creation is really fun and it's just really fun.

I'm not too far in the game, but I'm enjoying it. The inpiration from Dark Souls is obvious, but they put their own spin on it. The alien post-apocalyptic setting is interesting and detailed. The gunplay so far can be challenging but fun, and the dark-souls-like dodge roll and abilities are good additions to the shooter formula. The exploration and dungeon crawling has a good balance and breaks in the tension that keeps it from being too oppressive. Unlike Dark Souls, you don't lose anything on death, so even when I'm getting beat down, I don't feel dissuaded from trying again.

The game has a lot of neat things going for it. Different classes and skills. Different weapons and armors. Different environments. But it's not super compelling. The gameplay of pew-pew shoot guys is competent, but it's not groundbreaking. Most bad guys have weak spots you can hit for extra damage. Some guys charge you, some guys shoot bullets or explosions, some guys are really tough and some are not. It's all fine. But the enemies seem randomly placed, and the maps feel proc-gen in a bland way. There's nothing that feels like an interesting good encounter. There's none of the "Guys throwing fire bombs at you from above while some hollows come at you OH LOOK A THIRD ONE JOINED" like you'd have in dark souls. It's mostly just dudes running at you. Kind of like Left4Dead, except without interesting special zombies or maps. There are bosses that have gimmicks. But eight hours in none of them have really stood out with a "Wow that was really fun and cool". The cubes one really stunk. Hated that. I also haven't found very many weapons or armor to try out in eight hours. One alternate armor set, a melee weapon or two. The medic class also kind of breaks one of the fundamentals of the "monsters and bonfires" game loop. It can fully heal itself on a short cooldown. I think Handler can also fully heal itself at mid levels, too. This kind of undermines the point of the bonfire reset + limited heal item. Then again, since the monster spawns are very bland, resetting at the bonfire doesn't really do much. There's no "I really don't want to deal with those ghosts again" stress like you'd find in its inspiration. There's some exploration to do in the maps, but it's not as intricate and packed as a FromSoft game. Every once in a while you'll find a side area or a secret. But even then most of them are kind of bland, somehow. It's also not super speedy. Much of the time I've been moving forward and it's felt kind of sloggish. There's no "I wonder what's around the corner?" really. There's as story that's okay. A little heavy on the proper nouns and chosen one motifs, but it's fine, I guess. I don't play this kind of game for the story, though. It's probably more fun with friends. I've been playing solo. I can see how it could be a fun beer and pretzels party game. Also, importantly, you can have a pet dog and it's a very good dog. You can pet the dog. The dog can get injured, but seems to ultimately be immortal.

Great gameplay, very mediocre story, making builds is really fun, the classes feel great, the areas are diverse and the bosses are probably the best part. Overall just a really nice experience, especially in coop!

So damn fun. I just wish I had more time to spend in game. Runs super smooth with the "minimum" CPU (Ryzen 5 2600). It's as fun as the original.

nice gameplay and graphic but high graphic demanding and the objectives aren't clear to the player.

the game mechanics are fun and the graphic is beautiful. the gameplay is fun too and the coop option is a huge bonus. but. the game is graphic demanding so you need a strong graphic card and even so you may encounter drops and lags. Furthermore, the dialogs are almost without any movement from the characters and your character doesn't even talk which makes the dialogue much more boring and the tail of the story hard to follow. and the game isn't giving you hints so it's time demanding even to understand what you need to do and even where to go on a map sometimes but I guess that there are people who like that.
