it's a disappointment that after I was really looking forward to enjoying this game after spending $60 and when I went to launch the game, it crashes and keep showing fatal D3D error they need to fix this issue asap.

I think the WORST thing I can say about this game is that it is better if you have the context of the original RE4. That's just because where it does make mistakes (and there are few), the original did well. As a Remake, I find some of these missteps annoying because it's a remake and has the benefit of retrospect. That being said: I preordered the game. It's May and I already have almost 100 hours logged. The game is amazingly fun. It's so satisfying to land a parry and follow it up by kicking your opponent in the face. Ashley's the same as my girl always was, but she's given more space to be sympathetic even if I don't like her mechanics as much. (I like keeping Ashley at my side in the classic since she locks in place in front of or behind you which you can't do since you can move and shoot in Remake.) Luis also gets a shiny new coat of paint that is a little less sexist and stereotype and more of a well-rounded character. He even gets a whole backstory! A lot of the boss fights have been changed, but it's a toss for me. Some are better (Salazar) while some are worse. The new enemies are nice too even if we are now up to our necks with Novistadors. Like I said, the parry mechanic is amazing. It's a QTE technically, but it doesn't feel like it with how it was integrated. The hands-down worst part of the game is Ada. While I really like the VA, Ada feels kind of just plucked out of the narrative with other characters taking her place. However, we will presumably get a Separate Ways DLC which I hate having to buy extras to get the whole story, but this should fix my concerns here. It's still something to be aware of if, like me, you're expecting Ada to be as present as she was in the original. (This is also one of those "better in the context of the original" moments because if I only played this, I would probably be irritated with her inclusion since she is so absent.) In short: I hecking love this game. Nothing is above criticism, but this is pretty close to perfect.

I LOVE the original, and this remake does what I thought was impossible. It maintains the *feel* of the OG RE4 while still changing up the mechanics and some story beats. It's not a straight 1:1 remake like Dead Space or Link's Awakening, but it's not a whole new thing like FF7 Remake. It's great and I love it SO much <3

I am a huge fan of the Resident Evil series, but I have a particular fondness for RE4 as it was the game that introduced me to the series. I have played the original game dozens upon dozens of times and own it on at least half a dozen consoles. To say that I love RE4 is an understatement as it is my favorite game of all time. Even though I have yet to finish, I have spent about 20 hours to get to the island playing at a casual rate exploring, doing side requests, and just looking at the environment. While RE4 Remake is a somewhat different experience from the original, it maintains a lot of the same DNA that made the original special. Additionally, the devs really poured a lot of effort into making some really beautiful recreations of iconic locations as well as creating some fresh, new areas that may or may not have inspirations from areas in the first. They also added enough new features to make the experience feel somewhat fresh. Even though stealth is not possible in every encounter, I was surprised by how much of the game can be approached in such a manner . The various melee prompt attacks, stealth kills, and lethal take downs add additional variety to the combat in addition to the smooth, rewarding gun play. There are many new notes in the game that provide many new details and insights into the games lore and the characters are much more fleshed out than the original. Even more, the numerous unlockables and difficulty modes provide incentives for additional play throughs. Playing on hardcore, the game is challenging and I have had several spots where I died repeated. Despite these moments of challenge, trying different approaches usually allowed me to complete them. Resources are sufficiently plentiful that if you carefully ration your supplies you should not run out completely while playing. I have run low but never completely out of ammo even with clearing most enemies and every boss encounter (even the somewhat optional ones). I think RE4 manages to maintain a pretty good balance of resource management overall. Overall, this has been a very fun, polished game experience that was well worth the cost of admission. The additional mercenaries modes and possible Ada campaign DLC content coming in the future only add to the value of this game and I think makes this an absolute must-have for Resident Evil vets and those new to the series.
