About Roundguard

About this game

An all-around bouncy adventure! If you love roguelikes & Peggle, then Roundguard is for you.

Castle Springbottom is under attack and it’s up to the Roundguard to save the king and -- more importantly -- recover his gold! Fling your hero into the face of danger and bouncing off hordes of dangerously cute monsters to reach the bottom of the dungeon. You only have one life, so you’ll need to learn how to navigate the dungeon’s hazards, master your hero’s skills, and make strategic choices if you hope to defeat the final boss. But don’t worry, the Roundguard always bounces back!

  • Bouncy Fun: Intuitive pinball physics-based gameplay like no other dungeon crawler.
  • Multiple Classes: Play as the Warrior, the Rogue, the Wizard, or the Druid each with their own unique skills, items, and cheeky sense of humor.
  • Randomized Dungeon: Each time you play, the world map and every level are procedurally generated, and quest events and elite monsters are randomly placed. It’s a new experience every time.
  • Permadeath with Benefits: Each time you die, you’ll have a chance to bring a special trinket with you on your next run to help even the odds. The more gold you grab before dying, the better your chances to collect one of the most powerful trinkets for your next run.
  • A Cast of Oddballs: Chat with the castle’s colorful cast to pick up quests and learn why some rats want their king dead, what’s irritating the local teenage skeleton today, or what the Warrior will do if you can’t get to a bathroom quickly enough.
  • Lots of Loot: Over 200 items and trinkets, each with effects that present strategic choices and combo possibilities. Rare and legendary items have randomly chosen bonus properties, so each one feels special.
  • Show Off Your Skills: Compete on the leaderboards and try to master all the challenging, rule-bending relics. Test yourself in the daily and weekly challenges to earn new rewards and bragging rights. Earn all the Encore roses in an escalating series of difficulty ranks for each hero.

This game is one half Peggle, one-half dungeon-crawler, one half-roguelike. Trust me. the math adds up. Just like in Peggle, you clean screens by bouncing one of several characters around, each one with their own class-based abilities. You find loot to equip as you clear the rooms, fulfill quests and defeat bosses while clearing your usual rogue-like map. And if you die, you keep some stuff but get back at the beginning. Honestly, it's a well-designed reward cycle. While a lot depends on chance, the rules of the game are clear and by equipping the right tools in the character that suits you rplaystyle you can bend the odds in your favor. It's fair, it's cutesy, it's humrous and extremely addictive.

Decent Game With Minor Annoyances

To put simply, a solid game! I think the base gameplay and strategy is fun - it's enjoyable to play, has a lot of replay value, different characters and abilities, equipment etc etc. That being said, my 2 biggest issues with it are the following: Design: The character designs just feel kind of off. They're very childish and cartoony despite the actual base game being fairly difficult. Not that it's that bad! It's just not something I'm personally into. Sound: I, unfortunately, found myself immediately muting all the sound in this game. The voices are...honestly kind of obnoxious, along with the sound effects and music. I don't mind throwing on my own soundtrack over games but when it's bad enough I have to mute it first thing, I gotta dock off points for that. :(

Amazingly fun and addicting. Roguelike mixed with Peggle puzzle time. The roguelike runs and different unlocks and characters really adds quite a bit of playtime and different ways to play them. Not too complicated or hard either. So could be fun for a large age range.

Very fun hybrid roguelike/peggle type game. A bit on the easy side since I made it to the end on my first run, 8/10

If you read the short description you won't find the word "game" in it. I don't think that's a mistake. ✔ good variety of objects is thrown at you from the very beginning at nice pace ❔ the roguelike elements are mild - I cannot see anyone making any interesting builds out of the items/upgrades ✘ you shoot your ballperson and then observe what happens until you can shoot them again. Well not really, since you also have two abilities that can do something when flying. However... ✘ active abilities cost a lot of mana, which disincentivizes their usage! ✘ too much randomness, little choice, e.g. each chest you open is a single item instead of a choice between multiple options ✘ you can lose because you hit too many enemies in one round (they deal damage, but on the other hand they are the objective) and there is nothing you can do about it ✘ character flies in unpredictable ways

Surprisingly fun, impressive depth. Takes a pretty straight forward mechanic and adds a lot of variance and special powers to make it replayable. Well worth your time.

Roundguard is a fun and addictive game that combines elements of pinball and dungeon crawling. The gameplay is fast-paced and challenging, and the randomly generated levels ensure that each playthrough is unique. The art style is colorful and whimsical, and the sound effects and music add to the overall charm of the game. The controls are intuitive and responsive, making it easy to get into the game quickly. The game is not without its flaws, however. The difficulty can be frustrating at times, and the lack of a tutorial or any real guidance on how to play can make it difficult for new players to understand some of the mechanics. Additionally, the replay value may be somewhat limited for some players. Overall, Roundguard is a solid game that is well worth checking out for fans of pinball and dungeon crawlers. It's a fun and addictive game with nice art and sound effects. In a few words: Roundguard is a fun and addictive dungeon crawler pinball game with good art and sound effects, but with a steep learning curve and limited replay value.
