It's a decent Doomlike (Doom Eternal Like), but still rough around the edges. If you want that kind of game, I still recommend it. To me in some regards, it is fixing some possible issues Doom Eternal had. Power weapons (Gore tools) have more agency instead of "here's ammo, use it", I'm actively choosing to use my finishers on specific enemies to get their weapons (Even going as far as letting me farm a little to get the one I need) and that is a good thing.
Some parts of it leverage all the groundwork Doom laid down, while some play like a "difficult" fps that just throws bullet sponges at you.
Sometimes it's the best boss you ever fought, sometimes it's the crappy "I give you absolutely nothing (no tools or anything), do this".
Bosses not having fodder in the arena is bad in my view. The game spent hours teaching me how to recover ammo and health, and now when I need it it denies it? Literally the same kind of design as a boss being resistant to certain powerful effects that you usually rely on.
The jokes don't always land, they need to stop trying so hard (the taunts must stay, that fits perfectly with how I felt while playing, it enhances). An occasional good joke hits better than this. If Wang matures just a bit on the top of these events then we have a neat protagonist here. Does not need to be overly serious, but a bit would help.
Overall, I think being a bit unrefined and the bosses not spawning in fodder are the the worst things I can say. I assume they changed styles because 2 was not selling well, I really hope they can put more polish on what they have now for a future installment, it is a diamond in the rough.
