About Shenmue™ I & II

About this game

Experience the epic story of revenge within a unique and enjoyable open-world in action adventure RPGs Shenmue I & II. With this Steam key, you’ll get your hands on SEGA’s most requested re-release of all time, in a saga that defined modern gaming.

ALMOST-ENDLESS OPPORTUNITIES
With enhanced graphics and a consistent frame rate, Shenmue I & II is certainly an open-world action adventure game worth diving into – whether you’re returning from the Dreamcast days or playing for the first time. Take down enemies with jujitsu combat, investigative sleuthing, explore the vast RPG elements that the game has to offer, and jump into some memorable mini-games.

SETTING THE TREND
Play through two classic RPGs that pioneered open-world city exploration and birth of the Quick Time Event (QTE). Experience day-night cycles, weather changes, shop opening times and interactive NPCs who go about their business all on their own schedules. Now’s the perfect time to jump into a franchise that has consistently made the list of “greatest games of all time” – among both retro games and modern games.

SOLVE MYSTERIES
In a tale of revenge, begin your journey in Shenmue I as teenage jujitsu artist Ryo Hazuki, who returns home and witnesses the murder of his father, Iwao Hazuki. Join Ryo as he vows to avenge his father’s death and sets out tracing Lan Di’s (Dragon Mirror) path through 1980s Yokosuka, Japan.
In Shenmue II, players will continue Ryo’s quest, crossing the sea to Hong Kong, China – where the protagonist ventures deeper into the criminal underworld. Meet martial arts masters who aid you on your journey and offer an insight into Ryo’s father’s death.

"A weird, beautiful, melancholy martial arts adventure. Flawed, but an unforgettable, singular experience."
80 / 100
"Shenmue is incredible- All open world games should be this good. Players hoping for a little more action and less Forklift Operating should check out the Yakuza series."
80 / 100
"To me, both Shenmue 1 and Shenmue 2 are the epitome of what Japan was able to accomplish when publishers gave the developers under them very long leashes to just go out there...

Favourite games growing up. Little has changed, just as good for escapism as they've ever been.

I didn't play the third game, but those 2 are as good as it gets. Clearly they show their age, and the games are quite clunky for modern standards, but if you played those in your youth, you will feel at home immediately. Graphics has been cleaned up, and sound is fine. These are the first example of "open world" games that inspired what you would then see later on down the road.

An interesting romp that is more charm than substance. The voice acting is abysmal, the character you play as (Ryo) controls like a truck, but it all has a charm to it that I felt was genuinely appealing. A lot of people will say you need to have some form of nostalgia to enjoy it today, but I hadn’t played the games beforehand and I enjoyed both of them throughly.

Really glad these games are still around so maybe they can find the audience they deserve. If you're looking for wall to wall action, you won't find it here. But, if you can just take your time and enjoy the world, there's a lot to like.

Shenmue I & II Review

Staff Review
The Dreamcast versions of Shenmue I & II were a revelation for video games - and the remastered Steam PC versions look set to be just as enjoyable almost 20 years down the line. Enjoy a beautiful 3D open-world with a story of revenge, as well as mini games and plenty of side quests to keep you playing for hours. And, when you've enjoyed these two, you'll be all set for the arrival of Shenmue III.
